Anyone else get stressed out when they get a new dog.

Our new puppy is wonderful, he is a wondeful boy, but I am soo stressed lol.

I think its just the big change, anyone else feel like this?? For some reason I forget how it was when I got my other dog. LOL. Selective memory perhaps?
heh.

Or maybe it was the 10 hour drive (that we did all in one day) to get him from the airport.. oh man! whew. And on scary icy roads no less. lol..

Anyway.. how long does it/did it take you all to get used to your doggie?

My boyfriend is stressed too, we both are not feeling 100%.

I will post pics of our little boy hopefully tomorrow. He is just settling in and we have been so busy making sure he is okay and stuff :)

He is wonderful tho!!

Heck, I was stressed out for the first month! I already had a dog, but this is my first puppy. I also drove 10 hours (5 each way) to pick her up, so I took an extra day off of work. In retrospect, I wish I had taken the whole month off! LOL!

It's just all the poop and pee. I work full time and drive home at lunch time every day hoping for a clean crate. Didn't always happen. Then there was the "mouthing". Yeah, well, I call it biting.

I'm so glad that stuff is over with. She's finally becoming what I want in a dog. I just hope it keeps getting better. But, I'm dreading adolescence. I've heard too many stories. Yikes!

I don't think I have ever been stressed with a new puppy, just tired from the lack of sleep during the potty training phase. Hopefully you will be able to relax, and catch up, on some much needed sleep this weekend. It sounds like you are both very tired. ;)

oh man, i feel lucky now hehe.

Our boy is almost 4 months, and holds his bladder all night. He doesn't even wanna come out of his crate! haha.

He has had 2 nights in the crate so far, and he is doing so good!! The first night i sat in it with him for about half and hour petting him and giving him a few treats. The second night, he walked into it by himself and i sat in there more. Tonight he was running in and out, playing with his toys and he ran in by himself. I sat just barely inside and petted him.

He doesnt' make a peep all night! He just crys and howls if we leave the room. He is doing SO good.

Curb the crying and howling now or you will have an Emma

She screems if she is in her crate and I leave the room.

I left her at my parents house, in her crate in my old room and went to watch a movie with a friend. No my parents house isnt a strange place to her. They said she SCREEMED for the ntire 3 1/2 hrs I was gone.

we went through the crate thing with Teddy twice lol. When we first got him he used the crate. he didn't always cry but sometimes he would. We never would let him out though unless he was quiet again. after a little bit he enver cried when in his crate. Then we started letting him have run of the spare room when we went out. It was his room, his crate, his chair, his toys and a nice big window. We never used the crate anymore.

Then when I moved to Ontario he had to start using the crate again as there is no spare room. My neighbour (landlord) said he would cry for an hour or two every day when I left for work. She said some people complained but she wasn't going to do anything about it as she knew he was still young and in a new place. Now he doesn't make a peep in his crate. he gets excited to go in there as he knows it means an extra yummy treat in his kong.

Just stick to your guns on the crate training and it will go fine.

We are gonna keep our crate in the bedroom till hes used to the house and to us, probably a few weeks. We bring it down in the day so he can play in it and bring it back upstairs at night :D

I don't think there is a way to "curb" the crying.. its just a natural instinct. You can either ignore it or you can avoid situations that cause it. We don't work much and one of us is with our dog all the time :) so he never has to be alone.

When he does occasionaly, i think it will be fine cuz he will be with our other dog once we introduce them, and he won't feel alone, he will be with a member of the pack. Plus our 5 cats. :)
