Ive just been kind of randomely thinking about dogs and kids, especially since I've gotten the puppy. Now, shes afraid of new people and TERRIFIED of children (we're in puppy training to work on socializing, starts next week!). But, since she's a puppy, allllll the kids want to touch her, which is understandable, however, in all the kids who have seen her, which has been a lot even in just the 10 days Ive had her, only ONE has asked me permission. I've been trying to get her around kids so she gets used to them and I usually have time to explain that she'll be afraid of them and they shouldnt touch her, just stand around until she comes to sniff them, but when a bunch of kids run up I dont always have time. My question is, is there any kind of program that goes to schools and teaches kids about how to approach dogs? Yeah, its the parents responsibility, but I remember when I was in elementary school we had all kinds of silly workshops and guest speakers. In first grade my parents actually brought OUR dogs in for everyone to meet. Anyone know of an organization that does this? If not, is it a silly idea? I could totally see Shadow doing it and now that I live in a neighborhood (I used to live out in the boonies :p ) I find myself getting thoroughly pi$$ed of on an almost daily basis about the how the people here interact with their dogs and thought maybe some kind of school program would be a good idea. Or if there was one, getting involved in it would be fun. Ill def google it, just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with something like that. Sorry, loooong post :)

Oh, as an aside that has nothing to do with this post :D Went to the vet this morning and saw a morbidly obese choc lab, an obese golden and a fat weim (which broke my heart, I think weims are unbelievably beautiful dogs that should never, EVER be overweight, only sleek and beautifully muscled). Fat dogs make me mad (at the owners).
