Hey Ive recently become interested in teaching my dog canine freestyle.
I want her to be able to spin when I spin, weave in and out of my legs when I walk and jump over my arms etc...
At the moment Im teaching her how to weave in and out of legs..she's a quick learner but seems to get a bit impatient. She starts off well but after less than 5 mins she just tries to snap the treats out of my hand .

I would be much appreciated if somebody could give me advice or tips..

For anybody who doesn't know what canine dancing is there is some fabulous videos on youtube that show some really cool dogs dancing with their owners...

Thanks a million

How are you teaching her to do the tricks, i.e weaving etc? Clicker? (that would be my choice).
How long are your training sessions? Are you training her with treats in your hand, luring?

As I already stated I would clicker train the behaviours that you want, don't lure ( treats in your hand), keep training sessions very short 2-3 mins, several times a day if possible (at least for the time being) or at least only work on each behaviour for only 2-3 mins. Finish on a good note, then move onto the next behaviour. Don't train for more than a total of 15 mins or less.
And if she continues to be snappy, end the session and ignore her. Plus you may need to reinforce training on taking rewards by hand nicely but not at the same time you are training the other desired behaviours.
Gezzz I am on some pain meds while writing this, I hope it makes sense..........:yikes:
Good luck

Hi
The training sessions usually last about 5 minutes..and yeh I use treats in my hand to lure her through my legs........
Plus you may need to reinforce training on taking rewards by hand nicely but not at the same time you are training the other desired behaviours.
Im not really sure what you mean there....

Also Ive never sed a clicker when im training my dog...do you just use the clicker when the dog does what you want??

Thanks for your advice!!

What I mean is teaching a dog to take food/toys or food rewards by hand nicely, which should be done before you teach other tricks/behaviours (sit/come, weave between your legs etc). Feed her by hand for every meal etc.

Go to www.clickersolutions.com or www.clickertraining.com for advice on how the clicker works and how to use it correctly.

Good luck

Oh I see..yeh usually she wont snap...its just after a little while she seems uninterested in doing the trick and trys to just snap it..I think maybe the training sessions are just a bit too long for her to handle at the moment so Im shortening them..

Thank you and Ill take a look at them websites
