Hi! I have 2 cockers, one of which will chomp on bones like chicken wings and necks just fine. My male however will carry them off, lick them a little, then leave them lay. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him interested? Thanks a bunch!

Do your dogs fight over food at all? If not a little healthy competition is a great way to intice a dog to eat. If he sees your bitch taking and eating the bones he leaves behind, he might want to come back and try them after all. Just remember to make sure the bones are RAW and not cooked ;) If he still wont touch them and you really wnat him to eat them for the nutritional value, get a meat and bone grinder and grind them up. He may just be confused about how to eat them (they smell and taste like food but dont feel like food)

Try searing, QUICKLY and VERY lightly the chicken. Some dogs don't realize it's really food at first since it smells nothing like kibble or canned food.
Dante didn't need searing but his first Turkey Neck took a lot of licking before he finally chomped into it!

Hmm. Me I'm a meany and would probably give him the bone first before dinner (or whatever meal you are feeding) if he didn't eat it I would wrap it up put it in the fridge--not give dinner and try to feed it for breakfast. (then if he didn't eat I would go ahead and feed--I'm not THAT mean)..LOL

Thanks to all whom responded. I may try the searing as I do not feed him first, so it doesn't make a differance. If searing doesn't work, I also thought maybe I would rub peanut butter or something like that on it. Both dogs eat Nature's Variety frozen raw and Honest Kitchen so it's not like he won't eat raw, he loves anything I put in front of him except the meaty b ones. Thanks again for the suggestions!

How old is he? (and you can't post here with cockers and not share pics!!!!) My girl is just 3.. she never was introduced to raw meat with bone till maybe a year ago.. she still doesn't get it. She will eat an entire riblette strip bones and meat.. anything else she licks and leaves..

My boy is 19 weeks today got raw bones and meat with his breeder and is enthusiastic over everything. My girl is now more curious as he will eat what she will not..

No, not water. A fry pan with nothing in it or a little olive oil. You get it hot then brown the meat quickly on all sides. It gives the raw flavor and a better smell till they will eat it raw.
Do you understand now? :D

I have a almost 9 yr. old black female (looks and acts like a puppy and has attitude!) My boy just turned 8, he is black and tan. I would love to show off my babies, but am in idiot when it comes to the computer, I don't know how to post pics!
His teeth are fine, he chomps carrots just fine, but he doesn't even try to eat them..ha, I haven't tried again, but very soon will try the searing..

I would try giving something that is mostly meat with a small amount of soft edible bone. Perhaps bone in chicken breast would be a good choice.

Hey guess what?! I tried the searing, I seared the Chicken wing on the george forman grill and it worked. Yesterday though I pounded the wing with a hammer and helped break up the bones. He actually dove right in. Today I didn't use the hammer, but seared it as yesterday, except yesterday I took the fat off and today I forgot and it looked like that might have been giving him some trouble so I went over to take it from him (he has no issues with me taking things from him), and he literally ran off. He was crunching it up and actually enjoying it! Thanks to all of you and your suggestions!!

Princess, I would LOVE to show off my dogs, but had to laugh when I read your post... I WANT PICS.. the black dog looks like Annie a lot! I will try later to try to post...but don't expect it...I did post a couple pic's on dogster though, it was pretty easy, so you could look there and see them..
