So do any of you have the Dog Washes nearby that are next to the "do it yourself" car washes? First time I saw it, I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. But the more I thought about it, it made sense so I had been meaning to try one and finally got around to taking Ace this morning. It was great. Ace is 105 lb dog and is not fun to wash at home because of the mess it makes. I took him up there this morning and washed, rinsed and blow dried him for $4. The blow dryer really wasnt worth paying for cause it just didnt blow hard enough to really dry him. So he could have had a good bath for $3. The water was warm and he actually seemed to enjoy his little outing. I would highly reccomend it to anyone who wants to wash a big dog like mine without all the mess of doing it at home.

I never saw or heard about this until the other day.

I was at the vet and this guy was there with his dog who had gotten hepatitis from injesting some of the water while there and obviously the area had not been completley sanitized. It was really sad, the dog wasnt responding to treatment and he didnt know if she was going to make it.

Just something to think about. Make sure the place is clean.

Wow, I've never heard of that either. That's scarey, I've been looking for a place to take my dogs to do the self wash thing also...but that will definately make me think twice about that.

I have been going to a local dog wash for about 14 years. California is big on dog washes and they are big business. San Diego has at least seven of them. Ours is sparkling clean. It has 5 raised tubs, pre-measured hot water from a shower wand, and a drying area. They provide the water, the shampoo, the towels, and whatever special items you might need. They clean up the tub, wash the towels, and gather up all the flying hair. For all that, they charge about $12.00. If we use the dryer, which we always do, that's another $3.50.

They are busy all the time. On Sundays, they have over 100 dogs come through. Here's a link to our dog wash. Just click on the paws at the bottom to see the services and photos: http://www.dogwash.com/

I've never heard of a dog wash like that, but at work we open our grooming salon for "Do It Yourself-ers" when the groomer isn't going to be in.

Everything except the groomer's scissors and clippers are there for use.

Haven't ever done it. I like getting in the tub and scrubbing the dogs. My boys really like bath time. They always come in the bathroom when I have a shower and try to jump in the tub. Miley is too short to get in the tub but that doesn't stop her from trying. She leaps as high as she can to watch you. The little creeper.

But it does make sense for those who don't like the mess.

^wondered that too

Luckily for me our two dogs don't mind bath time and hop into the tub and stand still for me to do my thing, LOL, but they have had baths since day one and know it's futile to fight the system! It doesn't hurt that they know there are treats on the way as soon as bath zoomies are over ;)

I think if we had a "dog wash" close by, I would give it a go just for the novelty of it..........to at least say I have tried it out, could be fun :D

We had a bunch of these type places open up at once and now they have all closed.

I'm sure it's hard to pay the rent and make money on a $4.00 dog bath.

We have a reallyyy nice dog wash, in my town. It's just a mile away from my house. My dogs love going... because the owners always give them cookies, and I always get suckered into buying a bunch of stuff for them. C:

It's $12, I think, at ours. They also sell premium food, pre-made raw, nice toys and leashes, etc.

When I lived in Santa Cruz CA, there was a place that I used to go to all the time. It was $12 that incuded a blow dry if wanted. The place was always clean, and the people were always nice and helpful. I liked that the tubs were raised and so I didn't have to get on my knees, and lean into a tub like at home.

I'm in MN now and have yet to find any self washes...

The trend here is to add them next to the do it yourself car washes. I think we have 2 right now in our city. I would imagine for someone who already owns a carwash, its not a bad investment to make for some extra cash. Only thing is these arent staffed with people. But the one I go to is kept clean by the owner. Like someone esle said, its very nice cause the tubs are at standing height. Well worth my $3 if I could just get stubborn ole Ace to get in the truck by himself LOL
