Bronki always howled to the great Dog God in the sky when the storm siren came on. It was so bass it stirred your heart. He would start in the alto range and drop it to baratone and finish with a long chest deep note. It was beautiful and i wish like anything I had it on tape. WE were in a pet store once when he was only a year old and the siren went off. He sat down..his head went back, his mouth made a perfect circle and out it . I started to shuuush him but everyone in the store at the same time said Nonono let him. HE held his notes as long as the siren went off.
Jim said "that dog ought to sing opera".
Every wednesday i smile with the memory.

ooops sorry double post. I meant to edit.

Guys, you'd see the humor if you'd ever seen Kharma enforce order like Smkie has ;) The humor isn't so much in the dogs barking at thunder (although Tallulah's pretty comical when she does it) as it is in picturing Kharma laying the smack down to the mouthy little monster. It's very, errr . . . sudden. And daunting without ever making physical contact. Face it, anything that puts shock and awe on a Terrier's mug . . .

I would suggest t-touch for dogs scared of thunder but i am beginning to feel like a broken record. Yeah i was laffing at Kharma not the barking. My question is what do you do when your dog is reacting this way?

Blaze only barks if it's loud enough. And then he either gest something to take his mind off the loud thunder -like a bone- or he gets a verbal correction/command (either NO or QUIET).

Lizzie is scared of thunder - but not so scared she shuts down. I either pet her softly, or she goes and lies down under the bench in my room (it's 'her' place). And she falls asleep.

It's not really massage -- a better description is gentle accupressure with some movement.

I've seen, firsthand, how Smkie's used it with Vic and Mary. Mary's old age aches and pains and arthritis and anxieties are SO well managed, and Vic . . . well, Vic could easily be a nervous, twitchy dog, but he is incredibly focused and able to relax. It's really impressive.
