Hello everyone!! I just have one question. Is it normal for dogs not to like playing with toys at all? We bought Jesse some, and she has never played with them! I have never heard of a dog not liking toys. She is actually scared of the sqweaky ones! Thanks!

hmm. since you rescued her, and she was in an abusive home, she may have never even see a toy before.

my dog Cody didn't play with toys very often. We thought the squeaky ones may have hurt his ears. he did play tug with a rope once in a while. Actually, the only time i ever saw him play with toys regularly was around other dogs playing with toys.

maybe if she's good with other dogs, bring her around another toy-obsessed dog, and see what happens?

i'd also give her a little while to get used to her new home

We have brought her to my friends house, who had a poodle, who LOVES toys, and Jesse would still not play with them. her previous owner told us that she has NEVER played with toys. Is it possible for us to get her to start? She is five years old.

(This is Sizzledog, just on Sada's computer)

Ronin didn't like toys for the longest time - it took him nearly a year to learn how to play with toys - and even now, he's not a big fan of anything that isn't plush or a tennis ball.

Max refused to play with any rubber toys, he would only play with plush. Once he got even older he would not play with anything other than build-a-bears lol. I have heard that some rescue dogs will have problems since they don't know what the heck they are supposed to do with the toys because they have never been allowed to use them before.
