We woke up this morning to our 11 mo. old puppy throwing up. It's not the normal yellow bile looking stuff that she occassionally will have (once or twice in the past). It's white and foamy and at one point she just laid down and was crying. I feel so bad and I don't know what to do! It's been going on for about an hour now and she's kind of heaving at this point. Any suggestions? I don't know if she got into something.

Fran's right. A trip to the vet, and in the meantime, check around the house and see if there are any chewed bottles or bags that she might have gotten something bad for her out of.

I've read that throwing up yellow bile means she likely has a common condition called reflux gastritis. The white foam may mean she has tonsillitis. Anyhow i also hope you are at the vet too.

She stopped throwing up shortly after I posted. I didn't see anything that she could have gotten into. She did play a bit with our other dog and is now napping. I fed her a little by hand and she kept that down. I was thinking she was being mopey and of course she just lept off the bed b/c there was a dog barking outside! Now I think I'm reading into everything she's doing or not doing. I'm still keeping a close eye on her and watching for any other signs of being sick. It really concerned me b/c I've never remembered any of my dogs crying when they got sick, but Kiku is the drama queen in the family, however I don't think she's that good! Thanks for the advice everyone! If it starts up again at all I will be taking her straight to the vet.

Well my cat cries when he's throwing up bile too. And I'm not fond of throwing up either, lol. So I guess it's normal.

That's interesting you mentioned that about the food allergies. I strongly suspect Kiku has allergies, she's been itching since she was a baby (and her skin doesn't appear dry or have signs of fleas, etc.). We are at my parents' this weekend and she had some of the other dog's food and my mom noticed last night that Kiku's stool smelled pretty bad, I wonder if it was in reaction to the food! I think she started crying b/c she was sick of feeling sick. Any suggestions on how to find the right food for her? We've gotten her the wheat-free stuff and I don't think it makes that big of a difference. I wish I could start over and just add things to her diet gradually to figure out what it is or rule out certain ingredients, but then she wouldn't be getting proper nutrition. I thought I was through with this stuff when I stopped being a nanny a couple years ago and the kids had food allergies!
