Ok ummm not sure if this goes here but my boy friends moms dog is starting to eat his own.... well ya.... ummm is there any thing she can feed him that will make him stop eatting it? I heard that pinnapple will help but is that true?

i just kinda want him to stop also cause he loves to lick every thing and every one so i dont want to be licked by him nor have my items licked by him if hes eatting his own stuff.

Pick it up before he gets the chance to eat it - that's the simplest and most effective way.
You can try pineapple, you can try some of the enzymes and stuff that are added to the food, but honestly, it's just best to pick it up right away and never give them the chance to eat it!

Could be that the dog isn't getting his nutritional needs met, and he's trying to supplement himself by getting "double the nutrition". Beanie's right, pineapple makes poo taste awful, but the best bet is to pick up the poo before he gets to it.

If he doesn't have the opportunity to eat it, all the better for everyone.

K, well the picking it up part is the hard part. They go out of town ALOT and leave him for my bf "there son" to baby sit, thing is he works 8 hours a day so that leaves him in the house 8 hours. They lock him in one part of the kitchen when they go out of town, they leave him with lots of toys, and a place to go to bathroom, thing is every time my bf gets home form work he can tell he pooed but its gone... as in he ate it.... We are trying the pineapple trick to see if it works. See he's a licker and loves to lick every little thing so ya me and them want the poo eatting to stop. They have a 3 year old boy that is always over at the house and is always getting licked on by the dog so i dont want him getting sick. My bf does let him out before he leaves for work and he does go out side.

They never had a dog with this problem before, they have another dog a 8 year old dog, this pup that is doing all this is only 14 weeks old and is a big pup. Hes a beagle/docson mix.

OH i forgot to add, that when they are at home, they let him out alot to go out back to go potty an stuff, but some odd reason the dog still goes inside when no one is looking its crazy. They are trying to house brake him but its hard, i was told its because he has docson in him. Not sure if that is true.

and in the morning times they give him a small thing of wet food, well when they put the bowl down he eats it in just a sec he is very very fast at eatting it. Could that be one cause? He does have a bowl of hard food in the kitchen all day if he needs more food.

I'm not surprised that the pup is exhibiting this behavior, actually. First off, 8 hours is just way too long for a 14 week old to be alone without the opportunity to go out. This will undoubtedly have an effect on his housetraining. Second, he has access to food all day long, and if you don't know when he ate, its impossible to gauge when he needs to go potty.

It has nothing to do with being a dachshund. Its unfair to blame the breed, as any dog is perfectly capable of being housetrained. Its true that some dog personalities may be more stubborn than others, but if you provide the right guidance and good boundaries, any dog will conform.

While we're on the poop subject....

I have a 50 pound dog who is on a pretty regular schedule. He poops within an hour of me getting home and it is very firm. (He eats high quality food) If he doesn't get a ton of exercise that evening, that's all the poop for the night. If he DOES get a lot of exercise, he'll poop again but its loose and messy now.

Why does exercise cause a loose stool? This isn't just a once or twice thing, its a regular thing.
