I've seen a few people on this site, who works from home..

I would love to find a job, where i can work from home, so I can spend more time together with my beloved dog.

May I ask the you, who work from home, what you do?? Cause I would love to know.. :)

I work for a major hotel company- I'm in sales- I book conventions into our hotels. After almost 20 years on property I love working from home. And so does my Zoe! My husband has his own company- he teaches paragliding. So he's out part of every day, but is in and out so also gets a lot of quality time with our pup.

I work primarily from home. I do a variety of things. Most of my current work is booking/computer work for a fishing lodge. I also do website/graphic design along with dog training (mostly private consultations at this point) and music lessons (limited number of students now although at one point I had nearly 40).

I don't live in a hugely populated area so having a variety of work possibilities has been best for me. I like working from home in some aspects .. but I will admit that it's hard to get with a specific schedule and to be as organized as I would be if I went to an office and had regular tasks to perform. I also don't have health insurance or benefits other than I can have my dogs with me ALL the time.

...also a computer nerd. Mostly called a digit head.

Actually I work with several other networked individual contributors and we offer a variety of services that we farm out to one another based on our expertise. The way it works is, one of us gets the contract and shares the work with a percentage added on for the finder. That way we get to share expertise without one of us going it alone and hiring people. Some of the things we do: Software performance specs (systems analysis), ISO 9000 policies and procedures, defect data analysis. process improvement/defect reduction. There is some on-site work, and sometimes presentations, but the bulk of the time is spent working at home. We also use a contract person for finalizing, publishing, binding work. I've had some of the same clients for years, people I knew when I was a corporation rat. The fun part is I get to take only the work I feel like doing most of the time, or no work if I want to smell roses, which I do a lot of in the summer.

I also fix computers that dumb people blow up and configure computers.

I would have never been able to have a Tosca if I had continued working for a company. It's this change in my work method that made it possible. I often come to boards like this as a break on my computer when I am working. I feel much more freedom now, but working on your own requires a lot of discipline or you won't make much money or have any benefits you can't pay for yourself.

ooops spelling

I have a destination website that pays my bills through Adsense and advertising. I also do websites and seo for other people. I'll never be rich but hey, I'm happy and so is Skye. :)

The internet opens up all kinds of opportunities but stay well away from the work-from-home-get-rich-quick BS.

Computer nerd here too. I only have to go into the data center when I have some serious upgrades or a disaster recovery. Even in disaster recovery, once I get the box back on the wire I can come home and finish the rebuild from here.

Mel- what instrument do you teach? I've always thought about teaching piano but wasn't sure I would have the patience to teach beginners. I could definitely help a somewhat advanced student with things like improvisation and harmony though.

I used to own my own pet sitting business. While I had to make several trips out every day, I had plenty of time in between to play with and care for my 4danes and the rescue danes. Plus - getting paid to play with other peoples pets - what's cooler than that?

Now that I am settled into the new area that we live, I am thinking of starting up my business again. I miss working for myself. And the free time. :)
