Hi all,

My dog was neutered four days ago, and over the last two days he seems to have become much more aggressive...barking at other dogs and people. He also has been marking more than usual. He is 1 year old and we waited until this age b/c he had an undescended testicle. The vet thinks that this behavioral change coinciding with his operation is a coincidence, and that the behavior is normal for an intact male coming into adolescence. I was wondering if possibly his insecurities over his injury (the incisions and a bit of clipper burn) and a lack of exercise are making him act out. The neutering itself wouldn't have caused this kind of behavioral change, would it? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks very much!!

I'd say lack of exercise. My boys wouldn't be happy without their activity. They are crazy grouchy when they do not get to go out.

Since the hormones have probably not even left him yet I doubt it has to do with loosing the testicles but I could be wrong. I'd say it has more to do with being "wounded" and possibly the anesthesia than anything else. He may be making up for being a little slower and feeling a bit of pain so he may feel he could loose his status among the dog. Don't let the other dogs pick on him or fuss with his incision at all. And as Paige said he may be a little stir crazy from resting so much.

i agree that it wouldn't be hormones. i'd vote for lack of exercise, for sure. maybe you could do some extra training sessions with him in the house and maybe play some thinking games until he's healed up and able to run again.

and kudos for neutering him- those undescended testicles are ticking cancer timebombs.

That's I think definitely lack of exercise too, I visited my neighbor's newly neutered dog, he was left on the corner thinking he need rest for days and he's acting weird. He get so excited when we roll a tennis ball in front of him and he' doing well now.
