Lola's license renewal came in the mail today. She was sitting their looking at me before I opened it and as I was opening it I said it's for you. You're costing me more money and she just had the biggest smile on her face as though she was laughing.

Anyhow when I opened it I seen it was $15.00 which is what I paid when I first adopted her because she was not spayed yet So I thought that maybe they are not giving the discount anymore and looked at the town website. It seems that the fee is now $15.00 per year for a dog or cat that is spayed or neutered and $20.00 for a cat or dog that is not spayed or neutered. So basically it went up $5.00.

They used to also have a rabies clinic that was free but it seems like they done away with that because it says to go to your veterinarian or a nearby town as they have clinics. The only problem I see is that if we went to a nearby town to get the vaccination they probably would not give it to her because she dos not live in that particular town and the towns they are held in are probably only doing it for their town residents and not ours. So the fees go up while the services are cut.
That would be like me taking my recyclables to the next town, they wouldn't take them from just anyone you have to be a resident in the town that you are taking your recyclables to. Fortunately her rabies vac is good till 2011.

No difference here for intact or altered to my knowledge...

We just got our renewals in the mail, too. And it turns out, somebody put their dog in my roommates name! I guess she's an acquaintance - and the dog is aggro... that person has too many dogs (here you have to have a kennel license to have more than 6 I believe) so they put the dog in someone else's name! Can't be legal?!

Anyway...

You're in NJ, aren't you? Residents in NJ can go to any town's free rabies clinic. They're funded by the state, not the towns. :)

Our license fees have gone up, too, but not all that much. In the 12 years we've lived here, they've gone from $4 and change to $7.20 (in 2010) for a neutered/spayed dog.

You can usually go to the city building (town building) and get the form to fill out or if your city/town has a website you can usually get the form there.

Just google "YOUR TOWN/CITY DOG LICENSE" and you should find what you need.

Then you fill it out, you usually need proof of rabies/spay or neuter and you pay their tax and off you go!:)

i just got mine in the mail too. ours are $8 for intact and $6 for speutered. PA also offers a lifetime license for pets who are chipped or tattooed, and i think that's what i'm going to do for steve when he's neutered and chipped.

I havent licensed Chloe yet... I am horrible, I keep meaning to get to it.. .I held off after she turned four months hoping to pay the cheaper spuetered price but since that has happened yet I really just need to get on licensing her.

Here it is 8.50 for altered, 11.50 if not... so it doesnt make that big a difference either way.

Here the standard charge $46.

$18 discount for spay or neuter.

$10 discount for fenced in yard

$3 discount for microchip.

So lowest fee is $15.

I think it is different everywhere, you can usually find a breakdown... around here some money goes to the shelters, some goes to fund animal control officers salaries, etc... basically it all goes to animal related things.

Honestly, we never licensed dogs growing up... but I worry taking mine to the dog parks if they are not licensed that I could get fined. Its easier for me to pay the 20 dollars a year then worry all the time... but I really think it is just a money making scheme.

here its a $5 fine if you get caught...

but seeing as there are loose dogs everywhere, I'd like to be as legal as possible in case there is an incident.

Xena has a lifetime license. I don't honestly remember the cost, but we got it for her right after her spay, so we got the "discount" rate. It wasn't that expensive, really.

Our city's licensing blurb:

"Please be advised that every resident dog in the City of Lethbridge over the age of 6 months is required to obtain an annual license. The current yearly license fee is $40.00 for an unsterilized dog and $25.00 for a sterilized dog. If an unsterilized dog is marked for identification, the annual fee is $35.00, if sterilized and marked $20.00. Should you wish to house more than 2 dogs at a single residence you must apply for a dog fanciers license through the animal shelter and if approved there is a yearly dog fanciers license fee of $20 in addition to the regular license fee per dog. No single residence in the City of Lethbridge is allowed to house more than 4 dogs"

So i'd have to pay $25 per dog = $75
With an additional $20 per dog = $60
For a grand total of..................$135

Can you say cash grab? Mine are not licensed as you can probably tell.

I think Molly may have been licensed once. Never renewed it, have never licensed Lucy or Juno.

Cost here is $30 for intact, $20 for s/n.

I always license. $12 here for a neutered animal; I have no idea about un-neutered. I was a former animal control officer in a nearby town; my father was a selectman for over 20 years in our town. We follow the rules as a result.

When I did animal control, if your dog got picked up for any reason (running loose, breaking any ordinance), you HAD to get the dog licensed to get it back. Which meant if your dog got picked up on Friday evening, the town offices didn't open until Monday morning. So your dog was kenneled at your expense until then. If I picked up a loose dog without any ID on it, I would pour through our database of licensed dogs looking for any dog it could be and try contacting any possible owners before I dropped the dog at the kennel - saving them the kenneling fees.

Here for a County Dog License it's $12 for a altered animal, and $24 for an unaltered.
I think that price is about right. I mean, it definitely makes people want to get their pets altered. It may not seem worth it at first if you go to an expensive vet for your Rabies shot and Spat/Neuter surgery, but it is definitely worth it in the long run. Besides, we plan on going to the local Low-Cost clinic to get Tobi neutered.

It also says here that they don't require a license for a puppy until it's 6 months or with a set of adult teeth.
I plan on getting Tobi neutered, his vaccine done, and licensed ASAP though. Probably after his "drop". I think he might be a late bloomer...
I mean he was born on August 12th 2009 and there is still no sign of them. Should he have them by now?

My town charges 2.50 for altered and 15.50 for intact per year, you're allowed up to 10 dogs.

I license bc by law in my town they can just seize your dog at any time if not licensed but must have judge approve if licensed.
