Okay Florida peeps. We're heading down to vacation for ten days near Jacksonville. We're going to have Ozzy and Indy with us and we're looking for dog friendly beaches, where they can be off lead.

So far it seems like jekyll island is the closest and the best bet for dogs that are dog selective like Ozzy, but if anyone has other places that you can take them to the beach and get away from crowds with them that'd be awesome.

We'll be at jekyll island and Fernandina beach most of the time it seems like, but Fernandina requires a leash, at least until the lifeguards leave. I'm not sure if the beach closes then or it becomes swim at your own risk at that point.

We're willing to drive about thirty minutes or so from Kingsland where we'll be staying the nights, but I'm open to suggestions as far as sixty or so miles away. This is the first time we'll have the dogs along, so anything to keep in mind with them on the beach aside from fresh water and life jackets would be great too!

I hope you guys have an awesome trip! Jacksonville is a couple of hours north of me, and I've never been to any of their beaches.

Florida can be kind of weird when it comes to dog beaches. You'd think there would be a ton of them, but there really aren't many. There's a nice one in Jupiter, Florida, but that's a LONG drive from Jax.

Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a dog friendly beach in Jacksonville. It looks really nice:

Here's a link to a bunch of dog friendly places (including restaurants) in Jacksonville:

When we go to the beach with them, we make sure to bring something to give them shade (a big umbrella or pop tent), lots of water, things to chew on, and snacks to keep their blood sugar up.

You'll have a blast!
