I seriously need some help with dog food! I had my dogs on Canidae until very recently (because I haven't found a place who sells real dog food here, yet  ), and Beethoven's stomach could never really handle it. He didn't throw it up; I just ended up with enough gas to heat my whole house through winter :D .

Right now, I'm disgusted with the fact that I am having to feed my dogs "grocery store" dog food (purina, to be exact!!!). I was going on about it to my mom just yesterday....."I can't believe I'm feeding this to my dogs...."

I really need some help finding a REAL dog food, that Beethoven could actually digest. Bear and Shelb did fine on Canidae, and, for anybody who is wondering, I would reccomend it in a heart beat. Thoven just couldn't digest it LOL.

Thanks guys!!!!

Have you considered California Natural for Beethoven? Dogs with digestive problems seem to do well on it.

It's strange, but, my Dobe and Rottie also had problems on Canidae. They do fine on Nature's Variety, Holistic Blend, Wellness, Solid Gold...but, they do not do good on Innova or Canidae. I wonder what it is about these 2 foods that don't agree with some dogs...???
I know they are great products. I am just mulling this over :D

The Innova has a broad spectrum of foods included in it, which could account for some dogs having problems. So many dogs are turning up with food allergies now. I believe the Karma and California Natural lines are more geared toward a narrower spectrum of foods.

Purr, if you'll go to www.naturapet.com there's a store finder that will give you a good idea of where you can get their products (California Natural, Karma, Innova).

Thanks Renee :D I'm definatly going to look!!

Athe, that's a really interesting question....I can't imagine what it could be about these foods that some dogs can't tolerate...

Maybe in the mean time you could cook for them? Then they would never want kibble again! LOL! I had to cook on occasion for my dane who had inflammatory bowel disease. I usually made him oatmeal, chicken, eggs and veggies. With a vitamin supplement. This was only temporary though. ;)

LOL Pugs! I could try....I'm afraid if I switched them over to a "home cooked" diet permanently, I would end up leaving out some vital mineral or something...It's worth a try though, until I find a decent kibble.

I had that worry too, and that is why I only did it on occasion and gave a multi-vitamin with it. There should be recipes on line, or maybe Mordy's site would have some info on home-cooked diets for dogs.
