My dog is about to turn one year old. Up until now he's been on Nutro Puppy (the lavender colored bag). He tends to poop a lot (3x per day) and it's usually pretty soft. I'm not overfeeding him, so I wonder if it's the type of food that's causing this.

Since I need to transition him off his current food anyway, can anyone recommend a good, safe food? One that tends to cause fewer digestive problems? Rather than simply transitioning to regular (i.e., non-puppy) Nutro, thought I'd field suggestions. Thanks!

There are quite a few good foods on the market.. It will all depend on what is available in your area, and what works best for your dog..

I use Canidae for the most part. And Eagle & Natural Balance rotated in every now and then. But Innova and Solid Gold are very good as well.

You may have to try a few different brands to find what works best. Natural Balance is available at Petco. The rest you will have to either order online, or find a private owned pet shop or feed supply in your area..

I feed Innova and Canidae and both are great food. Solid Gold has more formulas, so it's easier to find one if your dog has a particular food sensitivity. Eagle Pack is another good one, California Natural as well. I hear good things about Natural Balance.

I use Chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul, but will be transitioning to the chicken soup for the dog lovers in a couple months. Its about the same cost (at least here), as the dog food at the grocery store.

Good for you for caring about what your pup eats :)
