Maggie May used to eat poop. You can go to your vet and purchase this stuff called For-Bid. Its a powder that you put in the dogs food and makes their fece's taste nasty. You could also just make sure you scoop the poop out of your yard regularly. Beware of roundworms and hookworms as eating poop can cause them.

My two love to eat cat poop, so we keep the door shut and the box scooped all of the time. Also, we keep the outside area cleaned up to...they thankfully aren't keen on dog poo.

There is a meat tenderizer, I forgot the name right now.........I have seen it recommended repeatedly to sprinkle on their food for this problem. They also have stuff at places like Petsmart & Petco for that problem as well.

But the easiest way is to scoop it up right away.........then there is nothing to eat :)

Understand that it is fairly normal behaviour and that it's probably not going to stop, at least not very easily. My old vet liked to tell the story of a guy who went so far as to pour gasoline on the dog's poop and the dog would still eat it. We tried several different deter products in Auggie's food and none of it stopped him. He did eventually grow out of eating his own poop (decided Happy's tasted better I guess.) so it's possible yours will grow out of it too.

Scoop it as quickly as possible and worry about something else instead. =>

I agree with Beanie on the

issue.

There are many theories floating about as to why dogs eat poop. But the most common reason is because they like. Dogs like to eat dog poop, kitty poop, horse poop, sheep poop, cow poop, & God only knows what other animal's poop.

I've got a few of these dogs & I have literally tried every trick out there....so much so that it took me almost a year to go through all the "remedies." But what works the best is to pick up the poop as soon as your dog goes or to scoop your yard several times a day. Since I have so many dogs, it's not feasible to walk behind each one trying to catch poop, but rather I scoop 3 times a day: morning, afternoon, & late evening. If it's not there, they can't eat it. ;)

Morgan does this too, and all we do about it is pick it up quickly so she doesn't get the chance. Nothing else has worked for her, and there is nothing wrong with her - she just likes to eat it. A lot of dogs do. Most grow out of it eventually (according to my Vet) but some never do.

I have tried EVERYTHING there is to get Charlie to stop - nothing works. I just keep the yard cleaned up as much as possible. The problem comes if your dog eats OTHER dogs poop - this is how they pick up parasites. So be careful if your dog is around other dogs that may have worms.

My dogs do this, only in the winter though... once it gets warm enough out they seem disgusted by there poop (although then it starts to stink so it gets picked up anyways).

There are all kinds of products out there with mixed results... keeping in mind that something that makes the poop to disgusting to eat, will likely also render the food to disgusting to eat.
You're best option is to scoop often...
