I am fixing to purchase the Infa Red Dog door from Drs. Foster and Smith but needed to know a few things..

I have a sliding glass door that I would LOVE to replace so that is an option of where to put it as well as a kitchen door that goes out to the backyard. That door is wooden..

My question is this, In order to have a dog door do you have to purchase a special "door" or cut a hole in yours? I'm a little confused on this...

Anyone have the Infa Red yet?

We've had several houses with different types of doggy doors. One we had cut into the door, one cut into the wall, and one inserted in a sliding glass door. There's a piece of glass that goes on the path of the door(where it slides) and it plays the part of the lock and everything, it just makes your doorway a little smaller. There's a doggy door at the bottom.
You don't have to purchase a special door. Your wooden one would make a fine candidate for cutting. You just have to follow the directions and make the right measurements for cutting and then actually insert the door.
I don't have an Infa Red.

The Infa Red is the one that is the one that opens for your pet that has the remote on your pets collar. I have cats so I don't want them getting out so I'm purchasing this door instead.

That's a very smart invention. My doggy door has been closed and my younger dog had to re-learn potty training since we got the kittens. I think I'll look into that. Are they terribly expensive?

No, www.drsfosterandsmith.com

Go to dog door and it's the InfaRed one. I think it's $100 and comes with 1 remote for 1 pet. So I'm having to get another one for my other dog and you have to get the same color that you have so it works.
Ok, thanks! So do you understand a little more about how to put in a doggy door? Are you going to use your wooden door? You can cut and install yourself or have someone else do it if you're not completely sure.

I guess I'll use the wooden door, it's not the door I've been training the dogs to go outside with (4 & 6 month puppies). Also that door has a glass/screen door on it, I'll just remove it I guess.

I would love to get a new sliding door or something.
