I've just used plain ole' Circle T collars in the past, but I really, really hate jingly tags so that's why I didn't buy any for my current dogs. For an inexpensive collar though they hold up super well and are really quite nice.

My new favourite rolled collars though are these:

Some people might not like them because they're not completely rolled though. They have a flat spot on the back that has a really nicely engraved ID tag, but the rest of it is rolled. I got them here if anyone is interested. Their picture kind of sucks, but the collars in person are beautiful.
LOVELY! Just bookmarked that website! WANT!

they do need to update their webpage though.. I would've never thought the collars were that nice! LOL

Do you happen to have any pics of the paco rover holder? I am trying to decide between it and the boldlead superlead!
Unfortunately I only have a couple pics that aren't that great because my models were wanting to RUN, but I love this **** thing so much!

One end hooked to each girlie here

Handle end is on Scoutini

Regular snap end on Lily

I love that the O-rings are fixed. The loose o-ring and leather stopper on the Bold Lead Super lead would drive up a frickin' wall. I discovered I hate loose o-rings on my leashes. They drive me nuts, just my personal preference though! I like that it fits me around my torso diagonally on one setting and around my middle on the other. Its really comfortable to use that way even with my good sized dogs. :)

Forgot some, whoops!

Collarmania
I have gotten two collars from Collarmania. One was a ribbon collar for Lily. Nothing wrong with it, was beautiful and nicely made. But honestly I discovered ribbon collars just aren't my thing when I got it. I gave it to a friend. I did take a pic of her in it though.

And when I took Scout in as a foster I had an adopt me collar made (though I almost had a panic attack when we went out with it on... shoulda been my first clue she wasn't leaving eh? LOL), and the rivets came out almost immediately and it wasn't very sturdy. Granted thats in comparison to Stillwater and no one does beastly strong nylon like Shane does. I donated it to MMR. :)

I don't see going back to Collarmania. Just not my thing!

Dog Sport Gear.com
I've gotten a biothane collar (I got it to try because I was curious... gave it to my stepdad so he'd have an extra in case Will's Hamilton collar dies.) and several biothane leads/lines. Great price and great quality. That 10ft line has stood up to hard use with two sled dogs hooked to a splitter on the end. :)

I ordered a black SS Herm sprenger prong a while back and it was not SS as the website said. I might not have known if I hadn't had the fursavers to compare. I sent it back and got a refund.

Elite K9
I got two black SS Herm Sprenger fur savers not too long ago. They are PERFECT!

Bridgeport Equipment
I got a braided training tab. It was great quality for the price! Too bad Scout shredded it, lol.
I've also used their leather tracking harness (owned by someone else at training) when my harness died. Probably the best deal for an agitation harness you can get anywhere. Also got a couple tie-out cables last winter. Great service, very quick!

I agree, they definitely do! I would never have bought them just by looking at their website. Someone on a different dog board recommended them so I decided to give them a chance because I really wanted a nice, simple leather collar for the dogs. And I prefer rolled leather and thought it was awesome that there was an option for rolled leather with no jingly tags.

Of course I edited out the phone number, but here is the ID plate:

The only downside is that there is only room for two lines, and I usually put more than one phone number, but that's ok. I bought one for Dance too and when Koolie puppy is done growing she will probably get one also. They softened up super quickly too. They came stiff, and in like a day and a half they were nice and soft just from the dogs wearing them.

I've always just bought collars from pet stores. The only online retailer I've bought from was Ellas lead and my experience with their products were negative as well. The collar was pretty much pooched after one swim in the river. The suede lining is now starting to come off the back, the brass coloring is coming off the rivets, and the leather itself seems to be permanently wrinkled. I also bought a lead from them and while the lead itself is fine (rope is strong and has stood up well) the plastic covering that goes over the stainless steel clasp was cut uneven and you can see the glue.

C'est la vie.

I admire Paco Collars, Caligirl collars and stillwater and maybe one day i'll get him one of those. Right now he's wearing some cheapo leather studded collar from a pet store 'cause his Harley Davidson collar was toast.

Ella's Lead - I won't presume to be unbiased, as I love their leads almost as much as I love Becca, Ben, Ophie, and Luke. I can provide a balanced, honest opinion, however.

I've always been impressed by the quality of the leads. I had an issue with one being clamped improperly, and I was sent a replacement the next day. They have held up exceptionally well, and I have both new and "pre-loved" Ella's Leads. The one that I use the most I ordered right when she started her business, and is my go-to for hiking and daily activities - it's still in great shape and hasn't been discolored or damaged.

I had mixed feelings about the collars for a while, because after seeing one of the first batch in person, I wasn't impressed with the placement of the studs or how well they held up. I've watched their work over the last few years was impressed with the looks of them, so I ordered a plain collar and lead for Middie earlier this year. Becca made them out of a new batch of bridle leather she received; and I can't even describe how beautiful or well-made they are. My boyfriend - who has worked with leather for the last 10 years - even commented on how nice they are.

For anyone who may be considering ordering a collar from Ella's Lead who is uncertain about the quality after reading conflicting reports from half of the forum, I'll offer this: My personal recommendation and as many detailed photos of the collar and leads I own as you want. There were some miscommunications on appropriate leather types and possible QC issues a few years ago, but that's the past. The products Ella's are making now are absolutely fantastic, and all of their recent customers will verify it.

I have a 40-lb dog who used to bust tie-out chains, and I'm happy to share how great they look and how nicely they have held up to his antics. If you are in the DC area, I'll even bring them to you in person if you want to order some but have doubts.

Collar Mania - I've had two "bad" experiences from CM, but still wholeheartedly recommend them. On one of my first orders I received a collar that had a tear in the fabric. I emailed Lisa and she immediately sent me a replacement and told me I could keep the damaged one. When I told her I was going to donate it to rescue instead, she responded with "GREAT! I'll send you some more collars to give to them." I received my new collar with three more to donate to rescue. :) How awesome is that?

My next "bad" experience was on a custom order. The embroidery that was supposed to have been done on the collar wasn't there - I received a beautiful collar, but not with my dog's name on it. I emailed her to ask what happened, and she immediately apologized and gave me a gift certificate for more than the collar had actually cost. :yikes: After that I ordered a few more collars. She went so far above and beyond anything I expected or asked from her that I am still a bit speechless.

I have close to twenty collars from CM now, and Lisa did so much more than she should have to make things right both times there was an issue. I can't even begin to recommend her enough to all of you. I will always buy, love, and recommend Collar Mania not only for the superb craftsmanship, but for the impeccable customer service. She's created a lifelong fan.

Best Friends Fashions - Are they still around? I have two collars from them, and while they are dress collars rather than playtime or daily collars, they are priced inexpensively for such high-quality collars and I recommend them. The owner is super nice, too!

J Dog - I didn't find that the leather or stitching held up well on my two collars and one lead from them. People here recommended it, but my experience was "meh" at best. Add to it that my orange collar actually showed up as a soft fawn leather instead of the safety orange it was advertised as and I don't recommend them.

2Hounds Design - I have three harnesses and four or five collars from them. I originally was impressed with the quality--if not the uneven stitching--of the collars I ordered from them. The deep chocolatey brown collar I ordered years ago to match my brown lead turned out to be a bright orange pattern. When I sent them pictures and told them I was happy with the everything except for that bit, the response was:

Hi Stefanie,

Your Middie is absolutely stunning! I would love to add her picture to my website with your permission!

Thanks!

Alisha

I let it go and figured it was a mistake. When the third harness I received was absolutely sub-par quality in comparison to the first two, I called to let them know. I did not ask for a refund or exchange, I just explained that I was disappointed in the drop in quality from my previous harnesses.

The nylon was super thin, it was only partially lined in velveteen, and it was uneven on the chest straps by an inch. My dog is symmetrical. My understanding of dogs is that most of them are, in fact, symmetrical; but I was assured that "there is a very slight unevenness in the way that the harness is constructed." After sending detailed photographs with measurements and explaining what was wrong with it, she insisted upon replacing the collar. I was reluctant to exchange it for another because she insisted that her dog harnesses were supposed to be uneven, but she insisted on providing me with a replacement.

After her last email verifying my address, she didn't respond to further emails and never sent me the replacement harness she promised.

TL; DR: When I stated my unhappiness with the quality of her products the response I received over the phone was that she didn't believe me and wanted pictures. When I sent the pictures, she told me that the harness was normal. Instead of admitting to the mistake and moving on, she defended the thinness and unevenness and insisted that the harness was made identically to my previous one - even after I showed her proof that they were not. I do not recommend them any longer due to this experience.

Also - can I list Sizzle as someone I recommend getting collars and leads from? :rofl1:

I bought a bunch of second hand collars from her a few years ago. I have no idea where she got them from, but they've all been awesome.

Rosey had an Ella's Lead collar... I was impressed at first, but as a collar that was only worn around the house, it just didn't last long enough for my liking for the price. I adore their leads, though, and have seen other nice collars of theirs I do like -- I just wasn't really impressed with spending as much as I did for the collar to not last that long. That was the collar that lasted the least amount of time for her... and all her collars before it (mind you, it was like, 2 before it, cause they lasted so long) were bought from PetSmart.

I really liked the Paco Collars that Jessie has for her dogs, and I adore the collar/bracelet that Jessie had them made to remember Rascal. I can't really say anything about the usefulness of it as a collar, since it did arrive after Rascal had passed away, but from what I saw of Jessie's crew's, the quality was defnitely there.

CollarMania I was really impressed with. There was an issue with the first collar I ordered, really minor, but she just made a new one right away and sent it, and told me to just keep the "mistake". I ended up stop using it just because I wasn't too fond of the material I chose -- but that was my fault.

All the collars my pets have right now, though, are from Morgan's Collars. All three ferrets have one, there's one that was for Rascal, and Rosey has one. They're built really well, and I've never worried about the one on Rosey breaking or coming undone even outside of the house. She's had it a while now, and plays/rolls in the grass/swims with it on and it's still holding up really well :D Oh, the turn-around time was AWESOME too, especially compared to the other places I had previously bought from :lol-sign:

I've only worked with three places and that's what I'll stick with!!

Stillwater Kennels- OMG. Shane has the BEST customer service EVER! I have around 7 or 8 of different types of nylon collars from him and they are amazing. A little faded and rusted from me keeping them outside in the rain OOPPS!!! But they hold up like no other collar. Like I'll be using the collars long after my current crew is gone. Also how cheap his collars are for the quality you get. You won't find a stronger collar, I'll admit they're a bit stiff and it takes a lot to break them in. But they hold up against EVERYTHING!

O'Brien's Kennel Supply- Again thick collars that will outlast your dog! Cheap and strong and the owners of the company I've met in person a couple of times and they remember me LOL since everytime I see them at a dog show I walk away buying ohhhh about 15 collars at a time from them and a leash or two! Can't help it I LOVE their stuff and their customer service is TOP NOTCH!

Gun Dog Supply- I could NOT be happier with the last two collars I ordered from them, they even sent me fliers of more product I might like as a letter thanking me for buying the collars, hand signed by the owner Steve! The collars are nice and strong and are holding up great on my two! The collars haven't been taken off since I got them either, and I usually swap out collars every week or so, that's how much I LOVE them!!!

I just ordered Tess another collar from the Collar Shop. A fabric I've been eyeing for awhile. It should look stunning.

I've got three leather collars from Ella's Lead, they're all fantastic. The only thing I don't like is one of them was cut from I think the neck area, so it's wrinkly. No big deal in the end really, but next time I'll remember to specify that I don't want it cut from there. I like the leather to be smooth. They have aged fantastically though, the color just gets better.

I have a double leather collar from them as well, that no body wears because it's really too heavy for any of my dogs. I like it, but it's too bulky. All of my dogs are pretty slender, so it ends up looking strange on them.

I've got several collars from Collar Mania as well, and I love them quite a bit too. I just don't really do fabric collars much anymore, all of mine are in leather. I should probably sell some of them :p

And then I've got one from I think TrendyHounds on Etsy that I really love as well. Well made, the fabric is lovely and has held up well.

All of these collars have been tested at a doggie daycare as well. They've all been dragged around by the collar, chewed on, in the pool, hosed off, ect and they all look great still.

Here's my recommendation for a Martingale company! :)
For thick Martingale style collars like you'd want for a Greyhound or similar breed, I like a local company called Classic Hound. http://classichound.com/ I only have one collar of her's which was given to me, I would never have purchased it on my own because I like more heavy duty collars and I don't like Martingale style for my big headed, thin-necked dog, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and strength of the collar:

That collar has been in a lake, in the woods and in the city and is still in good condition.

Some of the retired racing greyhound rescues have good resources for really nice martingale style collars.

ETA: And limited slip collars are essentially martingales, so you could always try a search for those.
