I'm still confused over the spay neuter questions. So far i've heard everything from you can neuter your pets at a very young age and it'll be fine, to wait till two years for a dog and until a bitch has her first heat

One thing that alot of people don't think of that I think is very important is "what should be in a doggy first-aid kit"? So many people like to be away from the house with their furpals be it a hike in the woods, a romp on the beach, etc. and things happen. A list of what should be included and the possible uses would be a wealth of information that in my opinion is necessary before it is actually needed to be put into action.

i think a good thing would be a medicine dosage chart so if a dog has a bad alergic reaction or something they can give them the right amount of benadryl instead of just guessing etc.
and what age to introduce diffrent socializing situations

I'm collecting information for an article I want to write and am looking for some volunteers to help out. :)

What do you think are the most frequently asked questions about dog care (includes nutrition also), or what questions do you find yourself reading/hearing frequently? Any ideas that come to mind are welcome.

Examples:
Do dogs need heartworm meds all year round?
Should I give my large breed puppy a calcium supplement?
and so on.

The purpose of this thread is just to gather questions, not to discuss their answers. :)

Thanks to everyone who would like to help out!
I would really like to read the article when you are through writing it:D .. I hope you will share it with us...:D

here's a few more

Is it okay to use self waterers / self feeders?
How often should you wash the food / water bowls?
How often should you give fresh water?
Is there any difference in the three year rabies vaccine to the one year rabies vaccine? (other than having to go every three yrs instead of one)
Is there any advantages or disadvantages of feeding puppies "all life stages" food or should it be specifically (sp) puppy food?

I'll think of some more later

Ok I have thought of another one..
I have heard of a lot of people say that when walking a dog for it to be on your left... Why is that? And why not on the right?

The only explanation I've ever heard is so that the dogs will not meet face to face if you pass someone on the side-walk...which would only work if you walked opposite as you drive.

I'd like to hear a more legitimate reasoning...makenzie prefers to walk on my right, and I prefer his leash be in my right hand...

Traditionally, hunters and military people carry their rifle on the right shoulder or use weapons in the right hand, and horses are walked on the right and mounted from the left, so this only leaves the left side for the dog to not be in the way.

Horses are traditionally mounted from the left since swords used to be carried in its scabbard on the left side (so you can draw with the right hand), which would make mounting from the right difficult.

From this type of working environment, the classic, traditional obedience type exercises developed, which require the dog on the left.

It really is smart to get the dog used to walking nicely on both sides tho, in my personal situation for example I prefer to have the dog ont eh right side (away from traffic) when riding my bike.

Hmm

How often should I vaccinate my puppy?
What foods are dangerous for dogs to eat?
How do I teach my puppy to stop biting?
Why is my puppy peeing everywhere?
How often should I feed my dog?
Is my dog gay? (humping)
How often should I give flea/heartworm medicine?

I guess you can add any questions about food/training that you can think of...

Good luck, you will probably have enough material to make a book though :D

Why is my dog eating grass?
If it is hot outside and the dog is in the car should you use the AC and windows down or just windows down or just AC on?
If it is really cold outside and the dog is in the car should you roll the windows down or will it be to cold for it?
Can dogs get a cold?
Do dogs know what you are saying (sit, down etc...) or do they go by voice tone or slight hand-eye-body gestures that you might not know you are making but they see them?

Why should my dog be on HWP if it never goes outside?
Can I "catch" worms from my dog?
Is it ok to have a large dog (Dobe) in the same household with a smaller dog(ShihTzu)?

Should you give flea and heartworm on the same day each month or is that just so we can remember it better?
