It is truly horrible.

Unless the dog was sedated or tied up it would be nearly impossible to force a dog that big into a hole....But dogs are so trusting that if told to stay many would obey their masters until it was too late.

But the story is horrible but not sad. By a miraculous chance the dog was saved, not only from a cruel death, but also from an abusive situation.

Here is a link to the hospital/shelter the dog is at now:

It looks like an outstanding safe harbor. The publicity the case got assures that this dog will easily find a loving new home. Hundreds of other dogs every day are not as lucky and cannot find new homes.

I do wish their were more appropriate legal means of handling the perpetrators of cases like this.

Just FYI, this is actually not the place the dog is staying at. The link is for a place in Jupiter, FL while the dog is in Pensacola. At a place called Safe Harbor Animal Hospital though. It's a good place. Also, the area of town where he was found isn't exactly the best, but at least he had some good neighbors.

Seems like my town(Pensacola) only ever makes the news when something bad happens.:(

It really disturbs me to hear about news like this. Why would anyone want to bury a dog alive? Society and cruelty to animals seems to surprise me everyday with stories like these. Hopefully this poor dog can recover from this cruel incident and live a happy life without any emotional faults.

I like how they named the dog Lazerus, the guy that Jesus raised from the dead!

This case reminds me of an animal cops I saw once where some people had buried some little puppies in the ground! They all died except one of them, I think.
