I am new to this site and have been going thru the forums at random and looking at dog pics, etc. I just read the note about the 2007 candlelight vigil against breed bans. Is there a 4th Annual My Dog Votes Worldwide Candlelight Vigil Against Breed Bans in 2008? I am new to the dog thing...been naively walking around with my head in the clouds. This is the first I've heard of dog bans. Seems like sci-fi. We are losing more freedoms everyday than we realize. No logic to it, although responsibility-taking is not really encouraged in any area these days, and if no responsibility, then there has to be legislation to do what responsible people used to do. So...if a dog is on the list, what does this really mean for that owner? Are the dogs confiscated or something? What can really be done to stop this?

Sometimes the dogs have to be muzzled in public, other times the dogs are seized and euthanized. There are people working to educate others on why BSL is ineffective, and sometimes it works to prevent BSL from being passed. Other people are working to repeal the BSL already on the books, but its slow going.

Yeah, dog breed bans are a horrible reality. And what happens to the dog depends on the legislation passed. In some places, the dog is required to be neutered and muzzled whenever in public (like in Ontario, I believe).

In other places, the dogs are confiscated and euthanized if found. And that's not only resident dogs. Pit bull owners are advised to be careful and do research before traveling. If you're just passing through a city with BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), and you're found with a pit bull in your car, your dog can be confiscated and euthanized.

It's really sad.
