Good Morning,

Please help!

First Cane is a fila with lots of dewlaps. Yes, we are under the care of a vet.

Cane has very sevre acne. I actually would not call it acne any more it is just nasty and raw under his chin. Cane is on his 2nd round of antibiotics and we clean twice a day with Chlohex and of course try to keep it as dry and clean as we can all day. We use stainless steel bowls.

Any and all suggestion will be appreciated.

All three of mine have had a least a couple of zits while growing up. When Cleo got a few last year some on her lips and under her chin, I used Tritop on them. The vet had given it to me for a hot spot Brutus had by his tail. It worked wonderfully for Cleo. I also used it for Titus, he had one one close to his lip.

I put it on a cotton ball wiped it on the area two or three times per day.

What dog food are you feeding Cane?

Wow, tritop looks like good stuff. From a couple of different websites:

"Has been reported to be 14 times as powerful as hydrocortisone"

He has mainly been fed Fromms and of course waaay too much people food.

Well, I doubt if food is the problem then. Mine eat people food all of the time, I think it is good for them. :D

Fromms looks like pretty good food. I may try it with my three.

Fromm's has been hard to find for us. We usually pick up a large supply when we go to visit our breeder in San Antonio.

Cane loves people food but can be a bit of a food snob. How about yours, do you find there are certain foods that they will turn there nose to?

What kind of bowl are you feeding out of?

I find my pugs get acne when they eat out of plastic. Stainless Steel and glazed Ceramic they have no problems with though. Also make sure you wash the bowl he eats out of every day with soap and hot water no matter what you feed.

Unfortunatley, we have switched to stainless and use a mild bleach solution to clean his bowl after feedings. Nothing seems to work.

thank you

I found a store in seabrook that sells Fromms. Fromms was 43.79 for 33 lbs and lg. breed puppy was 47.49. That is a little less than what I have been paying recently.

Thank you, Preas

Do you know off the top of your head if crab apple flower essence can be used with his antibiotics? If not, I will do some research on it.

Thanks again.

Victor got a huge patch of rawness on his muzzle when he was digging after a mole. It took two rounds of antibiotics, twice daily cleaning with Listerine, and still it took forever for it to clear up. No more sticking his muzzle in the dirt for him! I am sorry your going through this too, it looks a whole lot worse than a case of acne. It did not scar on Victor and his fur did grow back eventually.

Yes, smkie

I'm sorry that Victor had to go through it too. It looks so painful and it is much more that a few pimples. We took him back to the vet Friday and he put Cane on Baytril and his chin is looking 100% better BUT he doesn't seem to tolerate the baytril very well. He is lathargic and has no appitite, except fresh cooked chicken breast and sirlion(spoiled brat) and you have to feed him off your plate, he will not eat from his food bowl. Right now we are indulging him but he has a rude awakening coming once he gets well!

Anybody have any experience with Baytril?

My dog had that and the vet gave this cream i cant remember the name though if you could ask your vet for something that would reduce this 'acne'?

We are going to try Tritop. Our vet didn't have it so we are waiting for it to come in. Baytril seems to be working very well. I just worry about the side effects.

Thank you
