Both of mine absolutely hate it. He's perfectly fine in the waiting room - sniffs around, explores, wants to go away from me and stays next to me sitting quietly. Take him back and try to put him on the table, and he's clawing at your shirt trying to stay close to you and away from the table. He just doesn't like the cold, slick feeling of the metal table.

First time I took Chester to the vet he was clinging to my chest in my arms trembling the whole time, even in the waiting room, but he can be scared of lots of dogs and new people. He's fine in the waiting room now, but, like Jag, still hates the table. Jag can have aggressive reactions and sometimes needs a muzzle (ALWAYS needs a muzzle for nail trims), but Chester just tucks his tail and tries to run away. Never needed a muzzle, or at least so far. Good thing, too, because it wouldn't fit on him.

Blaze hated the old vets. no matter how often I would try and socialize him there and make it fun (just drop in once a week or more just for a quick weight in, even if he didnt need it and a cookie. to get him used to it. But he never ever liked it and had to be carried in.

His new vet he walks in happy as can be, doesnt have a fear at all. I think it says alot. I hated his old vet, and he did too. now I love the new one and so does he.

To those of you that have these reactions , visit more often !! Make them happy visits ! A quick weigh in , lots of pats and a doggie cookie .
Daisy stresses out bad in the parking lot right when we get there; heck she's stressing in the car when we turn into the parking lot, because she knows where she is (we never go in that area except to go to the vet). And won't take treats. Just recently I've got her to the point where she'll actually take treats in the car before we start going anywhere. She actually barely stresses in the car anymore, except for when we enter the parking lot at the vet.

The vet Blaze hated was literally a 2 min walk from my house (the reason I chose the vet as it was so close incase of emergency) I would walk blaze through the parking lot to go to the store, he would be fine. but he knew if we were walking to go to the vet or the store. if it was the store (which is 2 doors down from the vets office ) he would be fine, if we were going to the vet he would tense up and freak out before we reached the parking lot. they know these things like crazy lol

For some totally unknown reason Strider LOVES the vet. He loves the staff and the whole visit a lot. Even though he's never been where he didn't get stabbed by a needle, or had serious painful injuries prodded and squeezed, or been tube fed 1/2 gallon of liquid activated charcoal (thank you rat poison)

It makes no sense, but I'm not complaining.

Ivan absolutly adores the vet and the vet techs. Peewee is an odd one. He does like seeing them all as long as its IN the waiting room, as soon as we go back behind the door into the private rooms he starts peeing. He still likes seeing them, but all they have to do is say Hi Peewee and hes squirting all over.

Smeagol use to love the vets. It was a place that he got tons of attention and luvs at until he had to be treated for heartworms. Since then he is fine in the waiting room but once we head back to the exam room he shakes like a leaf.

Wicket is such a happy goofy guy we haven't found anything yet that upsets him. Even though he has been fixed and had a couple treatments for parasites when we first got him, he still loves our vets.

Moggy is a whole another story. He is terrified with anything once he heads out the front door. Getting him to walk on a leash took us forever with him. He walks now but jumps at everything. But let him out in the backyard and you would think he was such a bada$$! :lol-sign: So the vet is very bad place for him. I'm just lucky he is so little I can pick him up and carry him in. If I couldn't do that I don't think I could get him in there without them doping him up. :yikes:

Bring a towel or a bath mat to put on the table for him.

Are you kidding? Caleb hasn't met a person yet he doesn't love. :lol-sign: The true testement to my vet was Mick. The only place Mick ever pulled me when on a leash was at the vet's. He couldn't wait to get in the door, and, once inside, he'd nudge the door to the closest exam room trying to get in.

Baxter pees on the table every time--I always warn them to have towels ready!
Trav does not like to go, I think she remembers being boarded there -- and thinks we are leaving her.
Wilson--did ok when I took him in, but that was when I first got him home. We haven't been back since last summer, and he is not happy about meeting "strangers"--so I am not sure how things will go this next time around.

Both of them are passive about the Vet... kind of like I am about going to the Doctor. Not ecstatic, but they understand that it's necessary, and they stand there and take it.

Gonzo does shed EXCESSIVELY to the max! It's embarassing.

Teeny ADORES the vet! She crawls up into her lap and gives her kisses the whole time, acts like a total angel. She takes anything they do in stride, no fit throwing, just fantastic.

Blue on the other hand, LOL! He's not awful, and he certainly loves everyone there and isn't stressed at all, but he doesn't take vaccines well at all, nor does he stand well for getting his temperature taken. He doesn't go after anyone, he just has to be pretty heavily restrained so he stops moving. He's just a pain in the ass. LOL!

Wally also adored the vet, which is how Teeny learned to love them. Mike was very stoic, only time he ever growled at the vet was when she gave him his sedative prior to PTSing him, otherwise never a sound. Halo was AWFUL!!!!!! Every single time he went to the vet he tried to bite them. He could pull his muzzle off in .05 seconds flat. After all of my years of working in veterinary hospitals I have NEVER met a dog as awful as him. That was the first time the ******* bit me. He was muzzled, went for the vet, couldn't reach her, tore off his muzzle and went for her again, realized he couldn't reach her and bit me instead. I seriously hated that dog. Tainted the breed for me for life.

Trey loathes the vet with a passion. If you even put him in the car, he shakes terribly.

The paps are happy till we get there, then get very sad. They like the vet okay and give kisses but don't like shots. Beau cries and cries like a baby when he gets a shot. Rose is surprisingly the tough one and takes it all like a pro.

The funniest one was Nikki though, she adored the vet. She was the diva and had to go say hi to everyone at the office. They all adored her and were very sad when she passed away.

Sis, what breed was halo?

Sawyer puts up with it, but he's subdued the whole time. A perfect gentleman though, the vet loves working with him. Virgo loved the vet because he had treats and was quite free with them. The only hitch with her was she HAD to sniff EVERYTHING they were going to use on her, so things sometimes took longer but once she knew what they were holding, she was fine and didn't really fuss. Luckily my vet understood and would let her do her thing...one vet tried to tell me he was going to need someone else to help hold her and I said "she just wants to see what you've got" and he looked at me like I was nuts.

Armani doesnt have strong feelings either way, :lol-sign:

He doesnt go with them tail wagging or anything but he doesnt like to be taken away from me, no matter who is taking him.

But he doesnt shake, cry, bite, growl, or otherwise make a scene.

We try and get in, get out and do what needs to be done.

My two Chihuahuas and Toker too love any new social situation...love people. The whole idea of going to see anyone is quite thrilling to them, even after Toker's recent ordeal; being so hurt, surgery and all. All my dogs as puppies go for social visits to various vet offices a couple times a week for a weigh-in, treats, and lots of attention so even with icky procedures, it's still worth it to them, I guess. I don't think Toker had that kind of socialization as a pup though but she is just naturally an outgoing, social butterfly.

The vet makes Pit uncomfortable, but he doesn't hate her. He starts "performing" for her and the techs by going through his repetoire of tricks which is what he does when he's nervous. They always misinterpret it as him being happy though.
