The time has come for both my dogs to get more training and socialization. I haven't really stayed on top of those 2 things in the past, and it shows :( So they're getting signed up for training classes. Haily is somewhat DA, definitely dog reactive. We've had her around a couple dogs successfully before, but I definitely don't trust her around most dogs. So this is the class I'm thinking of enrolling her in:

"For reactive/aggressive dogs
This class is for dogs that have over-reactions to other dogs. In this class you will learn the skills you need to “turn your dog around†and manage your reactive/aggressive dog. You will need to contact Kathy directly before signing up for this class. The first night of class, you will leave your dog at home attend a discussion group on how to recognize reactive/aggression warning signs. Class is limited to 5 dogs."

The trainer is CPDT, NADOI, and ASPCA SAFER certified.

I think it looks good and will help Hailey a lot. What do you guys think?

As always, I'd check to see what kind of methods the trainer uses. Of course that the fact that this class even exists is a major plus, I know that Emma Parsons (author of "Click to Calm") really advocates Reactive Dog Classes, and what little information is given kinda sounds like the setup she suggests. CPDT and NADOI are both good certifications; SAFER is a little contriversal, but as it involves evaluating dogs in shelters I wouldn't worry about it for this class.

Good luck!!

Ah, ok, how would I go about checking to see what kinds of methods are used? I was unaware the SAFER certification was contriversal...

Hello Kenyigirl,

To check out the training method you can 1) ask for referrals and talk to someone that already went through the class and 2) if there is a class in motion right now ask if you can watch.

The class you are about to take sound great. If you really want to have optimum results, you need to do a little bit of study and practice at home. This is key if you want to be successful and proof your training.

Good luck and met ius know how it goes.
