I love hearing about the funny, sweet little quirks that dogs have. They are all so unique and adorable.
One that comes to mind is my Rosie,(passed away Jan 2005) a little female brussels griffon, puppymill rescue. She was already blind and almost deaf by the time she was 6 years old due to neglect. She had god knows how many litters (c-sections
) and was, after all that was done to her, one of the dearest, most loving creatures I've ever known.
When she came to us she had no idea how to play, even though my other 3 dogs tried and tried to engage her. Toys were a mistery to her....we thought.
One day while I was hanging out with my dogs I was watching A Baby Story on Animal Planet about a poodle mom-to-be. The show took us through her pregnancy and then the birth of her pups. When those pups were born and started to squeek, Rosie began frantically searching, nose to the ground...even though she was blind, she was on a mission. She gathered up every stuffy that she came accross and carefully placed it in her bed, when she thought she had found them all, she gently climbed in, layed down and nuzzled them up against her. Only then did she settle back down.
I watched her and cried as I saw the mother in her come out and the peace she felt protecting those stuffed toys. From then on, we always made sure that her bed was lined with "babies" close by for her to mother.
