I would only recommend getting a mix of ANYTHING from a shelter or rescue, so as not to support irresponsible breeders.

That's what I thought when I saw this thread.

What is it with newbies digging up threads from years ago, making ONE post in them, and never posting again?

kscott1231, I'm really glad you ended up with a nice one. With any kind of mix breed it's pretty much a crapshoot as far as temperament and looks go.

kairi_s_nobody, you could end up with a dog like hers, or you could end up with something on the other end of the spectrum.....like a shiba size dog with a pom coat and a really bad attitude towards other dogs and very high drive to catch and kill small animals.

Mixes can be great dogs, but definitely go for a rescue if you really want one. That way you will be able to select a dog with the kind of temperament you want, the kind of look you want, size, etc. You also will not be supporting somebody who just breeds dogs wily nily for the sake of supplementing their income.

At 6 months old, you still have a baby. There is still no guarantee how your dog will turn out, so highly recommending other people purchasing one is premature really.. and being a mix you may never find another one like yours, nor may anyone else.

she is about 10 months and 12 pds... looks like a fox...
does not get sick easily, learns fast, and very active...needs lots of exercise! lots of love and attention... a great breed!

If you want a mix, rescue one.

A breeder that has 4 breeds? And cross-breeds? Read as: PUPPY MILL. Avoid at all costs.

There are TONS of mixed and purebred dogs in shelters.

It is not a breed. It is a mix.

I never heard of this mix before, but I am currently looking for a shiba inu puppy, and I found a breeder that breeds pom shis. I'm wondering from people that own pom shis what they are like?
I know this post is EXTREMELY old and dead... >_> But oh well... ((Blame Bing, it led me here... .-.))

I had been looking for a puppy for a while. I had either wanted a Pembroke Welsh Corgi or a Shiba Inu (I know, completely different personalities.)
I came across a Shiba breeder who had a litter a Pom-Shi puppies. They were $100, and believe or not one of the least expensive puppies I had come across the last 6 months or so.
So, I contacted the person and met him that day. Very nice people. They gave me my little 9-week-old Tobias Comet (Tobi). They said he won't get bigger than 15 pounds!

He is very healthy, but nervous. They raised that litter in a barn so he wasn't used to being an inside dog so the new things scared him for the first couple of days! His personality has definitely come out now though! He is now 12 weeks old and a goofball!

The Good Things That I've Noticed So Far About My Pom-Shi:

EXTREMELY Dog Friendly
The SOFTEST coat!
Very clean
Funny and full of personality!

The Not-So-Good Things That I've Noticed:
Very suspicious of new PEOPLE and situations.
Got the yappiness of the Pomeranian...
Very Nippy and Wiggly
Will Back Away from you if you move too Quickly

Here are some pictures of my baby Pomeranian/Shiba Tobias!:

Another Cute Picture of Tobi
And a picture from his "awkward phase", lol. 10-11 weeks old.

Our other dog is a Rottie/Lab mix that was on the euthanasia list for the week at a local shelter, so we adopted him, lol. Totally worth it~ Him and Tobi and best friends! :]

nice that you bumped a few year old thread to boast about supporting back yard breeders.
