sleep UNDER the covers?? Lily has started to crawl under my sheet and blanket and end up at the bottom of the bed at night.
She doesn't stay there all night, but I was a bit concerned if there was a safety issue with it. I know I can't keep my head under the covers very long because of breathing carbon dioxide. I was wondering how in the world dogs stay under there so long and if there is any danger in it? Thanks for any replies.

Some of mine try...I usually veto the idea if im som'where in the realm of awake....

The new puppy keeps insisting on smother sleeping himself.... I keep having to relocate him.

I also dogsit a chi x that sleeps that way everynight...according to the owner....

It seems like they do fine, but the idea of it bugs me.... personally.

Audubon sleeps under my thick blankets every single night, and has every night for almost 8 years. She refuses to sleep anywhere else. If I even attempt to make her sleep on TOP of the blankets, she comes and stands in my face and waits for me to lift the blankets so she can crawl under them.

My mom's dog sleeps under the blanket as well, and has every night for years.

Seems like it would be a problem, like you mentioned, but it doesn't seem to bother them.

bambee sleeps with me too and she sometimes gets on the bed first and finds her place on my pillow. LOL! Most of the times, she wants to be under the blanket. Just make sure that they will have somewhere in the blanket where they can go out if they are feeling suffocated. :)

Both of my Chihuahuas burrow under the covers in my bed at night and have since they were little. (well, they're still little) LOL. Jose` often likes to go way down by my feet. During the day, Chulita burrows under a down throw on the couch. That's the only way I "see" her when she sleeps. She'll be 9 this June. Jose` just turned 7. So, I guess they must be able to get enough oxygen.

Mabel (rat terrier) does too. I've often wondered how she can breath under the covers, but she seems to do fine. In fact, if she's cold but doesn't want to get completely under the covers she'll just stick her nose under them. It seems like that's her temp controller.

VIctor and Pepper are both under the cover dogs which is fine with me. I sleep mighty warm. Mary gets too warm so she is an on top of the covers girl and i have a sheet for her when it is especially chilly. VIctor is miserable when he can't get covered up no matter how warm it is, he at least needs a sheet in the summer time. He will dig the whole bed up into a froth trying to get under it by himself then flop on top with a big groan of unhappiness until someone comes along and sets things to right for him.

All my dogs (jrts) are under the covers except one. Although Kiah often sleeps beside my pillow instead of under the covers, but if it gets too cold she burrows under as well.

Their like having little hot water bottles in bed with ya. Sometimes if they get too warm they'll come out and cool down, but soon go back under again.

Well, apparently this is a common occurrence with dogs. I was just a bit concerned. You hear about SIDS in infants just being on their stomachs and inhaling carbon dioxide from that little space, I just didn't want to wake up and find a dead dog. I wonder if that has ever happened? Probably not... I sure hope not! I guess they are smart enough to come up for oxygen when they feel uncomfortable....

Mushroom sleeps under the covers most nights as well. I actually got him his own blanket so I can sleep under my covers and he can sleep under his own because he's so stinking hot.

Saga will start off under the blankets, ocassionally with her head on a (her) pillow. She will get too warm partway through the night and will crawl out. THEN she will get too cold and will start to try to burrow into my ribcage. I now keep an additional lighter blanket at the foot of the bed so I can toss it over her versus trying to get her resituated.

Lucy always burrows under the blankets. She doesn't seem to need to breathe and is oblivious when I accidentally roll over on her.

My chihuahuas will only sleep under the covers...lol. They burrow into blankets on the couch as well.

Anyway, Rylie always sleeps against me under the covers, and Chloe does the same with Ian.

Hehe, Chloe does that as well. Rylie and Chloe each have a certain section of the blanket they enter through. LOL.

The beagles do. Chance prefers the floor. he likes a solid surface to sleep on rather then soft. Strange shepherd.

Bailey for the last 4 years has slept behind my knees under the covers with her head on my legs.

Kody sleeps under the covers but more up near my face... only he sleeps backwards so i usually end up waking up to beaglebutt. But lately he sneaks in between Brandon and I so I end up cuddling with Kody instead.

Oh god yes..... She will bulldoze right under if I so much as turn over and lift it a bit sometimes!!!

She likes to spoon under the covers :p My friends and family find it pretty weird..... But I find it very comforting sleeping with her... and I miss her when I am not at home.....

If it's warm she will sleep on her bed half way through the night, but she ALWAYS climbs up every morning when my alarm goes off - she knows I will snooze for up to an hour before getting up...
