This is the type of buckle I'm talking about:

I'm about to order a bunch of collars and can't decide which buckle type I want (I have a choice between the metal and regular plastic). The metal one looks more sturdy than the plastic and I think it's better looking in general on the collars, but I was just wondering how heavy they are, if they are durable, etc. I've never seen them except for on websites so have no idea what they're like and I don't want to order something that I know nothing about. So, does anyone have any experience with these? If so, would you recommend them or am I better of just sticking with a plastic buckle?

I don't walk my dogs with a flat collar they're just there for ID purposes so I'm not worried about strength, but I've heard before that these types of buckles can easily come un-done and the collar will fall off....not sure whether that is true or not which is why I'm asking this question.

I've never personally used one on a dog but I have handled them before. I don't recall them being any heavier than a regular collar.

i've seen those at petsmart and some other pet stores. they're not to much heavier. you wouldn't notice it, you only do if you hold a regular one in one hand and the other in the other hand. it's not bad. i find them harder to undo but that maybe because i'm a wuss and just can't open it x.x

i do think they look cool and am thinking of buying yoshi a new one like that.

They aren't insanely heavy, but they are significantly heavier than plastic ones.

Dakota has a collar with a metal buckle. It's probably sturdier than the plastic buckle, but I've never had a plastic buckle break and my dogs wear their collars 24/7. The fabric of the collar always wore out before the buckle did.

The metal buckle is ok, but I don't see anything wrong with the plastic ones.

I have a few Planet Dog collars with metal buckles and love them. They aren't much heavier than the ones with plastic buckles.
