When I get home from somewhere and I walk in the yard both my dobermans greet me by getting behind me and touching my hand with their cold noses. It's kind of irritating but I deal with it. Is this a Doberman thing? Neither my pit bull or my brothers pit bull does this.

I don't know, but it's better than what my Aussie does! I get greeted by a hard nose-punch to the backside! :rofl1:

Hrm, my Doberman is awfully fond of the snout buttpunch, like Sawyer. I can't say that Saga does the hand thing though. On the other hand if I'm not home she is in her crate. She has started following her Aussie brother's standardized greeting when coming out of the crate: Django will carefully place a paw on your foot ( he gets a bonus if he can get one on each) and stretchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, thus raking his paw down your foot. I would take the hand/nose combo anyday.

I get blindsided by noses in the hands. Both dogs do it and it's not just when I get home that's just when it's a given but they do it all the time. It's a conspiracy dammit just like the poop in the entry way right after I cleaned it up.

My dobie pup still launches herself and slams me in the face with her nose. She is getting a bit better about it but now and then she almost knocks me out.

My afghans circle behind and give a sniff or two before accepting that its me. Its like having a dog dance some days.

Okay, dobe people, is this unusual....

We had this dobe in the shelter- beautiful, two years old and an owner surrender. I worked with her a while... Anyways, her greeting would be to punch you- literally- with her paw, then spin around in a circle and wag her stumpy tail. Every time I walked in her kennel, I got punched in the side.

I've experienced a few dogs that do that. Every dog has their own way of greeting you.

The cold nose in the hand is an interesting feeling.

The snout up the butt is actually quite interesting too.

When I take King (Molly doesn't really like to go) to see my mom in the assisted living place she's in, he will walk up to anyone with their back to him and touch his ice cold nose to their hand or elbow. If he knows them, he will do it to the back of their neck if I don't stop him. There was one old woman, gone now, that he was nuts about, and would climb up on the couch with her, and she would hug him with a death grip. He would close his eyes, and it was obvious he really enjoyed it. When I would come without him, she would always ask me how he was, and why didn't I bring him. About half the time, he would touch his nose to the back of her neck, startling her, but she didn't mind it really. Her sister who also lived there HATED King, and if he approached her, she would snarl, "Get him away from me!!". She claimed he was "Vicious and crazy". Seemed like that described her pretty well.
