I personally think she should be help accountable. Even though she did have too many horses and she acknowledged that she could have called someone long before the situation got this bad! Someone would have taken them or been able to help her somehow with them. Just because she had too many doesn't give her any reason to allow these horses to suffer and then to be left dead in the field!

Thats disgusting. people that do things like that really need to be hurt.I can't imagine what I would do if I found or helped with that place. there have actually been three free horses in the paper lately. I am jsut glad they realize they have to go. She should be thrown into prison and forgotten about for a while.

Is there anybody (other than her) arguing that she isn't responsible? That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. How in the world did she end up with sixty + horses? Did she not hit, say 40?, and think, "Wow, this is getting to be a lot?"

She's an idiot, and guilty of neglect at the very least.

Sick, sick sick !!! Keeping horses is expensive . Much more than dogs . If she was trying to rescue , she sure wasn't doing it right . It would be like going to the HS and then putting them in a cage the rest of their lives.

She should be held accountable...she had control of the number of horses that she accumulated and she could have sought help much earlier if it suddenly became apparent that she could not care for them...she is in denial...it kills me to see how many people proclaim that they love their animals and then they let them starve...if I ever got in a position that I could not provide for mine, I would give them away before allowing them to starve to death...that is not love...that is sickness...

No way one person could care for 60 horses. Thats a typical number for a large scale horse farm in this area - and thats with at least 10 other assistants on hand so that leaves each person with 6 horses to care for - which is alot in my book but it does keep them busy for an 8 hour day.

With more and more people haording animals city councils and county courts are going to have to put their foot down and say hey - you are only allowed so many animals or you will be required to register as a breeder/rescue org/animal shelter which carries additional fees and taxes per animal.

I think it was her fault, but having had a great-aunt who suffered, to some extent from the 'collector' personality, I have some compassion for her. They usually start with good intentions, and are too disorganized to be able to effectively stop the situation once it gets out of control. It's easy to say "well, why didn't she call someone for help," but there is some belief that this collecting of animals is a mental health issue, not a 'lazy, uncaring jerk' problem. The reporter doesn't seem to have asked her neighbors, who clearly were unhappy with the horses getting loose and on their property, if they'd ever taken any official action in the past, like calling the cops or animal control.
