Do you take your dogs everywhere?

I don't take my dogs unless they're invited. I don't expect people to show up with their dogs, either, unless they're invited. If you show up with your dog, and it doesn't get along with my dogs, you can either put it in your car if the weather allows it or leave. My dogs live here, they have priority. Yours do NOT.

You don't even take a service dog into someone's house uninvited. It's THEIR house, THEIR rules. THEY get to decide whether your dog is welcome or not. If you don't like that, then stay home.

It depends. For the most part I bring her along. Most of the homes I go are friends/family that we're very close with and I know that they have absolutely no problem with me bringing my dog and I know that she gets along quite well with their dogs. In fact I get strongly chided if I DON'T bring her.

I work quite a bit, so my time off is mostly spent with my dog. If she was unwelcome in somebody's home we'd probably just invite them to our home.

I try to bring Duke as many places as I can, as long as he is welcome. So I make sure to ask. Luckily I can because my friends are all dog people and live on their own. It makes life easy for sure.

I like to be with my dogs. I've planned vacations based on whether the dogs can come or not. Having said that, I would never just bring my dogs along to someone's house without asking first. Nor expect someone else to lock their own dog up in its own home to cater to me.

I do take my dog almost everywhere he's invited and if I can but my close friends all have smaller family dogs too, and my own family has dog friendly dogs. So yes holidays, get togethers, etc, he comes with me. I would however NEVER expect someone else to put their dog away in their own home - no way. I wouldn't appreciate it if someone brought an ill-behaved dog over to my house and tried to tell me to lock MY dog up. I also always ask first, even with my best friend who I know it's not an issue, but I ask first if it's okay if Jax tags along.

But luckily Jackson gets along with all the dogs whose homes I visit, so it works out great. He also is very inviting of dogs in his home, so honestly, I don't worry even if someone comes by unexpected with their friendly dog.

Any time we go to an outdoor restaurant, etc, I will bring him too if dogs are allowed.

He's just very... easy. He's barely any extra work at all, he's small, he doesn't shed or make a mess, and he's well behaved. So most people welcome him.

The only places Frodo really goes are class, training trips to my work or Petco/PetsMart, hiking, Megan's mom's house in WI, and Sara's house.

I wish he was the type of dog I could take everywhere, but honestly it's just easier and less stressful to leave him home most of the time!
(Though that is slowly shifting :D)

The exact situation you described happened at a family picnic I went to recently. The host's dog did not like other dogs. But another family member brought her dog, not even bothering to ask the host because HER dog was good with other dogs. In the end, the host's dog ended up biting her dog. The situation could have been completely avoided and frankly I feel bad for the dog being put in that position.

I have a dog I usually have to bring along or I can't go. Although, the opposite of Frodo, that's slowly changing! She's able to be left home at different hours a little bit at a time. She's super easy to take along as long as it's nice out as she loves just hanging out in the car.

I almost always remember to ask if I can bring dogs if it isn't explicitly stated but honestly, most of the get-together-s I go to are dog related and dogs are invited. I tend to want to include them in things because I work so much that if I didn't, they'd really do nothing except hang out in my bedroom for hours on end. That sounds like fun, no?

I would not bring my dog to my friend's house unless they were specifically invited too. It's extra hassle and some of my friends just don't feel the same way about dogs as I do (sadly I don't have many 'dog friends'). I had a friend that used to show up to my house all the time with her Chihuahua. It's like she thought that because he was small that he was no bother. It used to get my guys wound up and it became an annoyance, so I politely requested that she stop bringing him.

My aunt locks her husband's big black dog up when I come over to visit with Bandit. She insists I bring him and while Mac likes Bandit out in the yard (he hates all other dogs everwhere so its a rare treat for him to play) he is a grump in the house. I think she just likes to have an excuse to get her husband to gtake him down to the barn or keep him out of the house though. Haha.

See, to me, theres a difference. Youre not just bringing him uninvited and expecting their dog to be locked up so you can bring him. Shes telling you to bring him.

I only bring Jack with me when we're going somewhere that specifically involves him - the groomer, the vet, training classes, my work to do training stuff, etc. I do take him along when I go over to my grandma's, simply because I'm usually there all day/evening. She likes him, he likes her, and he just lays around in the house or runs around in the yard if I'm doing stuff outside.

I think if I had a dog that was more sociable with people, I would take it more places. Jack doesn't like strangers, and its often less stressful for him to stay at home.

There are only a few peoples' houses I take my dogs to...where they're invited. And it's only because I can't make the trip, spend any time with them without being gone too long and can't leave them that long here. My Mom lives on an island around here and by the time I do the drive into Seattle or the other ferry terminal more north and go across the water etc, etc...it's too long a day. Sometimes I spend the night over there. So, she's fine with me bringing the dogs. Same thing if I go to my daughter's house. It's usually for too many hours or over night. Otherwise, there's really no other place I have to take them.

I avoid taking them when I do errands around town because I just don't think it's much fun for them to sit in the car so long and if it's warm out, I'm super paranoid about leaving the dogs in the car. If they're already in the car and I have to stop quickly for something, as long as it's not too hot, that's okay.

So, I don't take them with me unless I have to because it would be too long a day for them otherwise. I don't like leaving my dogs alone for more than about 6 hours...8 absolute tops.

Vacations...what's that? I haven't been on a real vacation where I stayed in a hotel or whatnot for so long. Where I use to live was like a vacation spot as it was. One of these days though...and then I don't know what I'll do with them. Maybe my ex or my son will babysit them for me. That's if it's a trip where I have to fly to get there. Road trips might work okay....maybe a hassle though. I would no way send them to a boarding place or vet's boarding situation...not unless I had to for some reason.

Fudge is generally hauled with me to peoples houses, if they're family. I actually got told off on christmas day for not bringing him lol (we have a massive christmas get together with everyone at my granny's house). Generally Fudge is included in the invite but if not, he doesn't come. If I go to something that's got tons of people or I don't want to manage him at, he stays at home as well.
