I love the more stable, consistent temperament of the boys but I love the way most girls are more cautious. They think things over before jumping right in like the males do.

I like them both. Boys seem to be more velcro-y and more straightforward. Girls are a bit more independent, and are definately wily thinkers.

Here's a good example. When Zeus didn't want to do something during training, he'd flat-out try to ignore the command. I insisted, he sighed and did it.

But my female golden? If I asked her to sit and she didn't want to, she'd suddenly get a horrible itch that she absolutely had to scratch. Or if we were working on heel and she got tired of it, she'd lift up one leg and deliberatly tangle herself in the lead. Then I'd get this totally innocent look: "Oops! How in the world did THAT happen?"

lol Gempress

Well when i was younger we always had females and I thought I would never have a boy dog because I was under the impression they were like human males ;) lol turns out they aren't haha

Now that I have my buddy I am definately more partial to males. He is so cuddly and mischevious and adventurous :D

I've never owned a male, but from all the male dogs I've met, I definitely like females better. They just seem to have more personality, I guess you could say - they do what they want, whereas the males I've met all seem pretty clingy, females are clingy but they're also a bit independent. I can't explain it very well.

I have always had males and thought that I prefer them. I now have a male and also just got a female puppy, so we will see. I can tell you that my male was FAR easier to house-break than our female.

Hmm
I like both but I always wanted a male dog
no idea why
people have asked me if Merlin was a girl or a boy before
they seemed quite surprised when I told them he was male :p

LOL!!! Gem... that's the way all my females were !! They don't call them bitches for nothing !! When it was time to go " car-car " the boys would hop in and the girls always had to rub their butts on a fender or find anything to do before they hopped it ! My males definitely bonded better to me....so I'll go with a boy if possible.

I would have to say i prefer girls. The one i have now is a perfect example of why. When im with her, she's completely focused on me, obeys immediately. However, if i have to i can leave her alone and she just sleeps or plays with her toys. She doesn't howl, or bark. My previous dog was a male. He was obedient and loved me. But he was SO velcroey that i couldn't leave him, ever. He'd scream and howl, chew things, destroy anything he could get his teeth in and try to dig his way to china. And yes, i went through all the desensitisation things, and took him to behavourists. It was just the way he was.

It's not exactly rational with me but yes i do have a preference for boy dogs. I'm sure that one day i'll just find a bitch at a shelter and absolutely love her, but whenever i picture my future dog in my head it's a boy. On the other hand my sister has only had girls.

I prefer a male dog find females to be a little too moody and the males easier to train but that is just me..i have heard other people swear the opposite. (dont tell mary) but she is moody too!

I guess when and if my time comes to find one.... it will be which ever can look into my eyes and I into their soul. I'm a pretty good judge of eyes !

I like them both. i have owned both and I believe it is a matter of personality, not sex :) also, if a dog is a submissive urinater, it has nothing to do with sex....although I have known more cockers that do this..both males AND females..:)
