just met a community of Dachshund owners. Lovely dogs. But I was told that dachshund cannot walk stairs (up or down) cannot jump (feet are too short), otherwise their bone (back bone? I forgot) will normally have problem before the age of 8.

One of their dogs just bore 8 babies and asked me if I want one... I was really considering seriously, but rejected since I do not have enough spare time to take care one more dog yet... And I am worried about the problem She mentioned to me... I do not think I have the knowledge or ability to handle that breed...

Dachshunds are very loveable little dogs.........but they can suffer from back problems, it's true. I am sure some folks who own them will be along to give more details :)

Yes, mini Dachshunds. They do have back problems. They can and do jump and can do stairs. You just have to be careful. I have seen them hurt by small children who have improperly handled them and dislocated a disc. It's a matter of knowing how to handle them. They often will jump from heights that they shouldn't. i recommend pet stairs. Sorry, i may be more coherran when it isn't crazy late and I am not running on tiny bits of sleep.

Hi...I have a Dachshund, and they're wonderful dogs!!! We really love our a lot, and probably will always want to have one.

They do have back problems most of the time. Stairs and jumping are really bad for them. They do love to jump though. Our Dachshund just had surgery on his back a month ago to repair his disks. Ramps are a good idea if you get a Dacshund...stairs of any kind are bad, especially going down the stairs.
