LOL. I hear ya Melanie.

"Oh....Chihuahuas. All the Chihuahuas I have known were ankle biting, yappy vicious little dogs."

"Doberman! Watch out....they're the ones whose brains get too big for their skull and they go crazy. They turn on their owners. I never trust a Doberman."

Ugggggggggg!!!!! Those comments do rather offend me. Ignorant people offend me. I just go along and make sure my dogs are good ambassadors to their breeds and try to not let it bother me too much. It shouldn't, but it does a little bit.

Yes, if someone asked if my dogs were snappy, curious enough to want to know about my breeds, I'd be more receptive. Of course, my little Chihuahuas are sweet and friendly, never have seen them be nasty at all....never. And the same with my Doberman...well, a little aloof, but never aggressive for no reason....just when someone tried to get in my house. But that's his job.

Thats what makes it so great having a choice, too each their own. I do not like all breeds but not everyone likes my dog's breed either, thats cool. You do your thing and Ill do mine. Besides if people want to be insulting about my dogs breed, I point to Tank and tell them to take it up with him. :D

On the other scale, the dog club my neighbour goes too, a lady that attends, has Weims. God help you if you don't like Weims LOL. She adores her dog, and loves the breed, but actually takes offence if you say you don't like them, or aren't for you. I haven't met her but my neighbour point blank stated, (very politely) though that She isn't fond of weims, and they aren't the dog for her. She said I don't dislike them, but they just aren't my choice of breed. The woman got offensive as per usual, but my neighbour stayed calm and said, "I understand your love for the breed, but I just don't share it, and there's nothing wrong with that either"
Snice I try and scare all potential owners away from Weims, I would never be offended by someone not caring for the breed. They are a tough breed to deal with. The rewards are immense and wonderful... but they are simply not for 95% of the population.

I'm just curious about how Weims personalities are. I'm not getting one anytime soon but a family member of mine is considering it in her potential breeds to get list :)

I just posted this on another thread, but I'll repost it here.

I would describe them as extremely active, extremely intelligent and yet stubborn and headstrong. They are not a dog for a first time dog owner. They need daily physical exercise and daily mental exercise. They must be kept inside and they must have daily interaction with their family. Many many Weims develop behavioral problems when left too often on their own. They, as a rule, don't like to be crated and they can suffer from some pretty major Separation Anxiety if not trained correctly as a puppy. Also, they have very high prey drive. I never suggest that they are kept with cats or small pets (dogs, mice, ferrets, etc), although we do keep two cats in the house, with the 6 dogs, one cat was there first, and they accept her as a small dog. The other was from the shelter, and after a year she still hates the dogs and they still are extremely prey driven around her. They must be supervised with our cats at all times.

Yes, they have short hair and shed very little, also the hair is of a neutral color and doesn't show up even when it is all over the place. But, other dogs shed little and may be a better match.

Hope this helps a bit.

It use to bug me when I had to hear people say how awful Chows are, now I'm getting a yeah, whatever attitude. What bothers me more than anything is my Chow LOVES to play with other dogs. Rarely do people allow their dogs to meet her. They will say things like "oh no, that dog will eat you up". I feel bad for her.

I just wondered if you get offended at all that people, don't like your chosen breed of dog? I guess don't like is too harsh a term, I mean basically if your breed isn't the breed for others. Included is different sized dogs too :)

Not at all, I love JRT's and always will, BUT I realize that people have their certain preferences in dogs, and each person is different!!

I have a mutt, so it doesn't really come up (not too many people can figure out what she is, so it's hard to casually mention hey, I hate those dogs) but on the few times it has, it's bugged me. I mean, maybe I don't think their husband is my type, but do I mention it withint 30 seconds of meeting them?

You just described my DoberBoy, and Dobes in general!! Ha, funny :) I knew there was a reason I liked Weims a lot!

I have to say I LOVE ALL DOGS....................that doesn't mean I want to LIVE with all dogs!
Little dogs are often to "yappy" for my taste, Hairy dogs are more grooming and shedding than I care for, Extra Large dogs cost too much to feed.......I could go on and on, ..............but the point is I enjoy seeing ALL dogs and are glad there are people who love every breed out there so I can see/meet them!
I would take it personal if someone commented that Orson was dumb, ugly, or any insult directed only at him. BUT if someone said "I don't care for Dobermans, they just aren't for me" I would say I know just where they are coming from and probably feel the same about their choice in dogs (maybe)

Maybe this is why all of the adult weims I've met have been neurotic! One time I walked by a woman who was standing outside by her car talking to somebody with her weim next to her on a leash, and the dog freaked out, barking and growling at me. It was a pretty weim though! :p

I don't get offended if people don't like my dogs, although most of the time people say my dogs are cute. I understand if a breed is not for you. I know that weims are not for me! And I know that cockers are not for me either. I think that both breeds are pretty though.

I don't really get offended. At times I actually get excited at the chance to educate others. People at school call cockers "dumb" all the time, and there are, of course, other breed stereotypes that I defend and educate as well. :D

No....I don't get offended at all. The only time I'd get upset is is someone made a generalized statement about a breed that I knew wasn't a fact in every case. That's the only time I'd get upset.

Nope... not every dog is for everybody.
The people who really bug me are the people who don't like dogs! They don't know what they are missing :)
My friend who owns a pug and I continually make fun of each others choices in dogs, but it's always good natured.

"Oh face it you're dogs useless if anything other then an infant breaks into your home!"
"Maybe, but at least every time my dog runs into the coffee table I don't just end up with expensive firewood"

Nah... we have a hound, a cocker, and a tiny dog at home, and I call them all bad names when they are not looking! I guess you can say that they are not my breed though, since I did not pick them or their breed.

Now that Chesapeake I'm looking at, don't even think about calling it a Lab.

People comment on how well behaved my dogs are often. I feel it is simply because they spend so much time with me and my husband and our friends. The Germans bred these dogs to be companion animals, being your constant companion. They shouldn't be big lazy slobs, they should be active, but it should be controlled and controllable in my opinion.

I agree that if someone were to say something specifically about my dog, in a negative fashion, yes, that would definitely get my ire up, but I know that this breed is not for everyone, and people that fall in love with their appearance (darn you Wegman) most of the time don't know what they're getting into when they get that beautifully stunning 8 week old pup!

Nope not at all i love it actully i love hounds, livestock guardians and pits both dogs that are not meant for everyone. All the breeds have their "issues" that most people cannot handle or give them the right life or activities. Plus different stroke for different folks. I love alot of dogs and pretty much everydog but that doesnt mean they will fit in my lifestyle.

I don't get offended either, but I do try to educate people on the misconceptions alot have about GSD's and aussies (since that's what I have and most people see me with :))

Gsd's aren't all cripples and aussies aren't for the faint of heart.
My sister has had labs all her life and now a papillon, she can't "stand" my dogs :)) they are to high maintenance for her, that's what I like about them.

How could ya not like this little face? this is Jynx and what she thinks about snow ))

The only time I get offended is when people insist that my dog is a Border Collie, or that Aussies and BC's are the same, they just dock the tails of one so they can call it something different and charge more money. I had to bite my tongue so hard when I heard that the other day...

But no, I know everyone has their preference and since I dislike a few breeds rather strongly, I can't get offended if someone exercises that same right.
Oh my God! Do people really say that? How incredible.
