No real reason for making this topic, just think it would be interesting :)

Do you ever want to breed dogs? Why or why not? Which breed? Do you consider any of your current dogs worthy of breeding, and would you breed them? Do you have a plan in place?

And go!

It would take lots and lots of great reasons for me to breed. So the short answer is not at all. I really am not interested whatsoever.

I think the foster litter we had years ago kinda put me off raising puppies again. It was fun at times but not at others. And even though we were super careful and paranoid about it they got parvo. It was the most helpless feeling. It was awful interviewing people for puppies. I'd rather do it for adult dogs anyday.

I would love to show and have a dog I could say I proved was breed worthy but I am a chicken and will likely never get in a ring of any kind lol!

I would certainly like to! I don't think I'd want to breed on a large scale, but I would definitely love to breed the occasional English Shepherd litter. I just adore the breed :)

Well, the fact that I prefer having male dogs kind of prevents me from what is usually considered breeding. :lol-sign: But, under the right circumstances, and if the right male dog came into our lives, I would consider breeding him.

There was a chance at one point that Siri might be bred. At that point I'd considered it.

Moving forward, no. Not really at all.

I've always been interested. I was just joking with Michael that if I didn't have the doggy morals I did have, I would love to have a dog to stud out - four litters or so and I could pay off my student loan. LOL (It's not a very big loan.) However, I don't think I'd have the energy or funds to have a breeding program that involves highly competing (aka, multiple sports) with multiple dogs. So, if I ever wanted to "breed", I'd likely have a brood bitch for another breeding program/service dog organization.

I have also joked about creating a breed of dog like Cynder. Seems like they are in popular demand, but not one breed is exactly suitable. Medium size, wash and wear weatherproof coat, mild mannered, social yet unobtrusive, weekend warrior, quiet, great with kids/other pets, trainable, etc., etc. Basically, a good average pet dog.

But if I don't have the time or energy to compete with multiple dogs, I can't even imagine starting a breeding program!

So, short answer: as a flight of fancy/BYB channeling, yes, I've considered breeding. Realistically, no, will likely never happen.

No not really. Sometimes I entertain the thought (especially of sport papillons with full health testing) but I don't want many dogs at a time. I would be open to keeping a dog intact for a friend/breeder to use as a stud or dam but that's about it.

No. 100 times over.

I have friends who are breeders. Seeing the stress and the worry and the expense and the mess and the sleepless nights...no.

I like other people to have puppies so I can snuggle them, and then go home.

Yes, but in reality no. I've thought about it, but more in a "this will never happen but fun to think about" kind of way.I don't know in reality if I'd ever want to breed. I think part of that is finding the breed of dog that I loved. I do like Talon a lot and for a lot of reasons he is closer to perfect than any dog before him, but there are some big things I don't like about him or his breed. So if I found the perfect breed, if I found the perfect pair of dogs, if I found some purpose to do it, I had an unlimited supply of time and money, and I was able to get in contact with people I could be certain would be good puppy owners than maybe. But most likely it will never happen.

Yes. I wanted to breed Dobermans. I still do. Even without the issues I ended up with Jazz she would have been spayed. Im hoping my next Doberman turns out breedable.

Yeah that's a big problem with me. I think I'd end up wanting to keep every puppy. lol I'd end up a hoarder.

Nope, not my cup o' tea. First off, the act of raising so many pups until they're 8 weeks+ would scare me. I don't like the politics of it all. I have no interest in showing and even though I have mild interest in sports, it's not really enough to prove my dogs are 'worthy' etc.

Yes. I am formulating a plan but it won't be for many years. I would like to breed all around Cockers. I would like to breed a dog that can hunt, do agility, obedience and excel in the conformation ring as well. Right now I don't have a breeding dog and I'm really new in the dog sport world, but I'm seriously thinking about it.
