It only takes 1 1/2 margaritas to get me drunk. Half way through the first one I'm catching a buzz. I'm a huge light weight.
Some of the places I have seen the margaritas, anyone would be wasted after 1 and a half of them. I'm talking half gallon size drinks ;)

I am also a more than occasional drinker, but most of my drinking is at home, so I don't get tempted to drink and drive. Other times it is when I am staying where the party is.

And mostly beer. It gives me more of a mellow buzz. Hard liquor, especially tequila tends to make me either violently ill or just violent. It also causes other strange behaviors, for example http://www.hdrules.com/dogday.htm

I do have a traditional pint of Crown Royal once a year to celebrate my birthday, though ;)

I also love Vodka and want to try the new three olives cherry vodka. But thats really it beer is nasty!
I'm not huge on Vodka most times but I LOVE that cherry vodka, whether it's UV or Three Olives. Cherry vodka and Sprite makes for a very good drink...easy to order, it's clear so no (or at least less) of a hangover and just tastes yummy.

Wow !!!! a whole pint ???? Can you even remember your birthday ??? Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk is foolish ! You either get sick , do something foolish and make an @ss of yourself !! Being hung over the next day is no fun either . I'm not a prude.... but to me having a drink is a social event ..... relaxing and having fun . I drank at a very young age .... sips from my parent's cocktails and small glass of Sherry or wine . I learned not to abuse . I feel that the worst abusers are those from families who don't drink and their kids enter the real world and then over indulge . I'm not saying that alcohol should be introduced at home , but it should be at least addressed .

I have to respectfully disagree. There are plenty of times I can remember going out and drinking to get drunk, because that's the type of night it was. However, I don't lose my common sense when I drink, I just lose that "too uptight in a crowd" trait and have a good time talking to people. Back when I was in the middle of a very stressful time at work, going to see a friend who lived 30 minutes away and having a really good drunk that night was enough of a "mini-vacation" that I could then put up with more days at work. That might sound like I was drinking to avoid things and I sort of was...because if I had to think about what was going on any longer, I was going to lose it. Going out let me forget about everything except what was going on right then and there and I could actually relax and lower my blood pressure. ;)

Now, on the flip side, I know plenty of people who can't hold their liquor at all and they suck at being people when drunk. So, know thy self and don't go past what you can handle.

Actually, a pint is not that much, especially since it is being shared with close friends. So, yes, I remember fondly all of my birthdays (except the first one... it is pretty vague :p)

While I agree in social drinking, I also know that social drinking a lot of times results in driving home, and that is something I will not do. If it is more than one beer on the way home, I either don't drink at all, arrange to stay at that friends house for the night, or arrange for a DD or cab to pick me up.

I agree with the rest of what you wrote especially about at least addressing alcohol use with your kids as they are growing up. Being a responsible drinker is just that, a responsibility.
