Hi, my rottweiler Lily has been kind of depressed all day, but also she has been licking her paws and moving her mouth weirdly. She is normally the master of her domain and will growl at the other dog when he gets near her bones or whatever but sort of in a playful manner but today it was no playing and she was like barking at the other dog, so I am just wondering could she have pms? Like could she be getting her period soon? She is 3 years old and has had her period before, and in July had her first litter of pups. I think she was suppose to get her period in October, but since she had a litter of pups recently I was thinking maybe she wouldnt get it for a while. please help I am worried about her depression. I also gave her dog food with tuna and she ate it, but I think she ate it only so the other dog wouldn't be able to get it. But i am also really worried about her licking the paws and her mouth movements. Thank you

Licking paws is usually a sign of allergies or boredom. I say allergies because their paws are itching and they are trying to soothe the burn. Boredom... I guess that kinda explains it all<< They are bored, so they just decide to lick their paws!

you can't compare the dog's heat to the human "period". they are two completely different things. :)

when a dog comes into heat, it's her fertile time where she wants to mate to become pregnant. the "period" of a human female occurs when an egg did not become fertilized, after the fertile time.

your dog will come into heat roughly every 6 months, so unless you get her spayed, you runt he risk of her getting pregnant again and producing more puppies. please get her spayed.

Dog's don't get PMS as Mordy already mentioned, they can get a little irritated when they are first coming into heat or out of heat...some dogs. As for how your dog is acting I would be concerned about a health issue. Take her to the Vet for a check up, there is a nasty flu going around. Is she coughing?
Also, many dogs after they have had a litter can go through a "down" time. My female didn't as I made sure she was replenished of all the nutrients and vitamins she lost during pregnancy.
In your case, it's definately time for a Vet check.;)

Oh I disagree. Dogs do get PMS. My female during her first heat had severe PMS. Her personality went in different directions. I had to isolate her from the other dogs because I never knew how she was going to act.

Ok, after sleep last nite she is still a little moody, but also licking her paws, if it is allergies I was thinking giving her a very low dose of benedryl, also she hasnt gone into her period yet, it's before the time, someone said she might get a little irritated well, she is normally irritated so she might get really irritated? I just moved and dont have a job right now, as soon as i get a job I will take her to the vet. But she seems to be doing a little better today.
