Hi guys.

Like the topic, do dogs dream? I think our Cookie definitely does.

Why do I say this? Well, you see, just about 20 minutes ago, I heard some noise coming from my left (her play-pen/cage is to my left) when I was using the computer. The noise was unusual - I've never heard it before. I turned my head to the left and saw Cookie lying on her back, sleeping soundly. My first thought was "Aw.. so cute! Look at her sleep!"

Then, I noticed something else. The noise was coming from Cookie. Her mouth was moving like she was eating something, basically chewing, and she was sleeping on her back! She chewed a few times and then licked her lips, you know, like after we had a great meal! LOL.

I wonder if you dogs dream, too.

I believe mine do. One sheltie I had, had terrible nightmares,. Twitching and "talking" in his sleep. We believe he was having dreams about his frisbee sessions and the frisbee just kept getting further and further away, unable to catch it! Now it's my poodle, "talking in his sleep". We believe he's dreaming about ways to get rid of the new Doberman puppy! Lol

Jose fights the bears in his dreams. Lyric is on a hike in his dreams. Chulita is playing high five in hers and Toker is wondering how to get a squirrel up in a tree. LOL.

A reasonable assumption. LOL.

My dogs dream all the time. Their paws twitch like they're running, then they make little wuffing noises and growls. Zeus actually howls in his sleep...full-fledged wolf hows that make the walls ring. Thankfully he doesn't do it very often.

Dogs do dream - they have periods of REM when their blood pressure increases, and often when their paws and other muscles twitch. They cycle through REM and Non-REM much like people do. It's quite ammusing :p

Absolutely. And cats too. I've seen both do this. They dream. I just wonder what their idea of a great dream is though. lol.

I think Midas has nightmares too. He can look very freaky when he's sleeping because he'll sleep with his eyes half-open sometimes. He twitches all over, his paws move as if he's trying to run, he'll bare his teeth and a few times he's started growling or whining in his sleep.

Hudson definitely does, and so did my childhood dog, Tasha. Both very similar, actually. The only way I can describe the sound is to say that it's like he is barking but with his mouth closed. He also twitches and appears to be running but with his legs in the air instead. It's soooooo cute!

Bear sleeps on his side and sometimes he's almost running full speed while he's sleeping. It's funny to watch. He makes different noises and has different bark tones. If he's happy he's got a high pitch bark and whine. When he sees something that doesn't make him happy like an intruder in the yard he's got a really deep bark and growl. We notice the same thing when he sleeps. So I guess he dreams about good things and bad things.

Mine dream, Aeron can get quiet loud in her sleep, Lilly is more of a lady and does the little yelp twitch. Although Lilly snores like a diesel truck!

Auggie has only had a few dreams where he moves his little paws... but Happy dreams all the time. His little paws twitch like he's running in his sleep and he woofs. Sometimes it seems like he's having nightmares... frantic little woofing. We have to gently wake him up by calling his name... if you touch him to bring him out of it, he totally wigs out.

I've seen the eating/drinking in their sleep dream, too, hahaha!!
Several weeks ago, Kota was sleeping on the floor with his paws twitching, and I didn't think a whole lot about it... until his TAIL STARTED WAGGING. In his sleep! It was soooo adorable. I've never seen a dog do that before, and he hasn't done it since!

I believe Shiloh dreams - usually his paws twitch like he's running, but occasionally he will whine softly like he's either having a nightmare or we aren't giving him his toy fast enough.

It appears that dogs dream about running a lot. Could it be because humans have kept them at home now, and they're no longer free to run around with no restrictions? Maybe deep down in their doggie hearts, the yearn to be free.....

Yes, I think they dream. Millie does more than Lucy. She moves her feet and sometimes scares me by making little yelps. When she does that I invision her chasing a bunny.

That's not humanizing at all

Dogs walk & run. That's what they do, that's how they exersize, that's how they travel... Birds fly, dogs walk. Of course they dream about walking or running. BUT at the same time we don't know if that's what they're dreaming about, and in psycology we learned that just because a particular muscle is twiching, doesn't mean it has anything to do with the dream itself. During REM blood pressue and everything increases, but in our dreams are we always running (or whatever) to make our bp increase? No, its just something that happens ;)
