I have to brag about Didgie for a minute:

We had a a Disc comp yesterday (And Chaz meet up, pictures to come), a Skyhoundz DiscDogathon Qualifier, and Didgie took first place in Freestyle earning us an invite to the DiscDogathon World Championship next year!

It was windy, cold and wet but she gave it her all and I'm just so proud of her. Not bad for her 4th competition!

One of the best parts was after one of the Disc dog guys I most admired came up and told me how much my relationship with Didgie showed when we were out there. Gave me warm fuzzies, especially hearing it from someone I look up to so much.

And it gets me all excited for a winter full of trick training.

Awesome! You guys have such a great repertoire! I aspire to one day be at that level with Leo. We only know a few tricks like spin and rebound so far.

Just curious, could you explain how it is scored?
Is it the number and complexity of tricks within the time limit? Is it completely a subjective judges score based on their overall impression of the routine? Do the tricks were Didgie does not catch the Frisbee still count for points?

The closest actual Disc Dog team is over an hour away (and that is without traffic), so I haven't made the plunge yet of actually practicing with people who know what they are doing. But definitely interested in learning more!

So it may have been from lack of sleep and exhaustion, but I totally teared up when you won. You two most definitely deserved it. I really hope that you decide to take her to Worlds.

I know I got some great photos of her to add to the collection (on Danielle's SD card, so get on that DJ!), but that is such a fantastic shot!

Spin and rebounds are fun because you can do them soooo many different ways!

Honestly, hopefully someone else chimes in with the scoring. I'm still figuring all this stuff out so all I know is what it says on the Skyhoundz page

AWS Freestyle Scoring System

Competing teams will receive scores ranging from 1-10, in half-point increments, for each of the following four categories:

Presentation
The team’s presentation of a crowd-pleasing routine with exciting choreography, continuous flow, good disc management and smooth transitions.

Athleticism
Intensity and athleticism in completing catches, tricks or maneuvers together with a dog’s speed, quickness, leaping ability relative to its size and control over his/her body while competing.

Wow!Factor
Ability to successfully complete challenging tricks or moves, including successful catches of throws with varied spins or releases. Also, the presentation of completely new moves, or a novel or unique presentation of a previously performed move, will result in higher scores in this category.

Success
The team’s ability to successfully execute a routine with specific consideration given for the difficulty of the throws/catches and tricks. A team's overall success score will affect, positively or negatively, the scores in all PAWS categories. In this category, it is entirely possible for a team with a few misses to score higher than a team with no misses if the team having the misses completes a more difficult routine.

Sooooo much fun! Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! I was really tickled and I really didn't think I was going to get first so it felt pretty great.

I'm still so tickled you, Danielle and Ashley (and Ken) were all able to make it. Made it a ton more fun than normal (and it's normally a ton of fun)

You guys look fantastic, so many congratulations!!! You're a great team. :D
Thanks! She really is so much fun to play with. I can't wait to see you and Feist doing Freestyle!

So ridiculously proud of you two!!!
Seriously, thank you so much for getting me into this sport. Like, so much. And being as awesome as you are so I always have a team to look up to.

You guys looked amazing. I really liked your opening. :D

Thanks for this info, Linds. That's interesting.

So, I youtubed foot rebound because I want to know how to teach that, and the only hits are chazzers :rofl1:. It's all videos of Cohen and Zuma.

Here's the problem though. They are all perfect at it already.
I can't figure out how it is taught.

How do you guys do it?

This is how I did it, I think both Sara and Sekah taught it different though.

I broke it up into smaller and smaller boards ( I think I did three maybe?) and it worked really well with her! I also spent a long time doing it in the house with food rewards and getting both our timing down so that I didn't have to stand there holding my leg up and so that she was doing a nice tight turn off of me. I need to get a close up finished video of it though since I haven't done that!

It was easy to teach for me but has been a longer on going process to perfect and it did completely fall apart as soon as I added a disc and a trick in front of it so lots of going back to basics a few times but she's really got it down now. She hits perfect probably 9 out of 10 times which I'm incredibly happy with

Very cool! Congratulations!

I like the rebound/flips/whatever they are through your hooped arms the best:)
I love those too! They're so easy to teach if you have a rebound but they look fancy I think
