I've heard about this on a couple forums and people are ripping into them. First I have seen no official statement but from what I hear they have taken any affected food off the shelf,so whats going on? I heard it was corn that got moldy but I heard it was being taken off shelves like a week ago and then a forum I read today said soem ladys dogs just died(but it sounded kinda odd) so I'm wondering.

I am on a hunting forum and many dogs have just up and died. There is a posting on the site that says the Diamond founf Aflotoxin ( spelling may be off) in the corn and its from the plant in South Carolina only and bags marked tih a certain letter G. You can call Diamond directly if you have nay concerns and they are taking all death info.

i just talked to a diamond customer service rep and here's what she told me:

apparently aflatoxin was found in corn at the gaston, south carolina plant. they are now analyzing many, many samples to trace down the problem.

only products of the "diamond" line of food with corn in them which were manufactured at the gaston plant are affected.

Had me worried there for a second. I feed Kirkland Signatures and have been told it is a Diamond product but not affected by this. It is not listed and we are not in any of those states mentioned either. Thank you for the link and allowing me to check it. I can rest easy now.

Praying for all those affected!

I've called my dog training instructors, who feed this food. Their formula has corn in it. :( These are teh same instructors who own the dogs I handle in agility...I sure do hope all those dogs are fine! *worried!*

Tessa thank you for telling me about this forum. I put my post in the wrong area.:) The most important thing is that it's out. I hope no dogs got hurt from this miscall. Keep us posted on your dog training instructors since they do feed this type of food. Let's hope you told her in time.

Here's the info. from Diamond's site. It has all the brand names and those that haven't been recalled.
http://www.diamondpet.com/index-diamondpet.php

I can't believe they unloaded the truck or trucks of corn that had the alfatoxin in it! :eek: When I worked at a feed mill we tested a core sample from every truck before it was allowed in the unloading area. If there was even a trace amount it was turned away.

Even though what I feed is not part of the recall, I'm still worried because I don't have the bag anymore just to make sure it wasn't from the Gaston plant or if the best buy date matches the recall part.

Copied from above link

What products are being recalled?
Recalled products can be identified by the Date Code and "Best By" dates listed on the back panel of the package. Recalled products will have a capital "G" (in reference to Gaston) in the 11th or 12th position of the date code (18 lb. to 55 lb. bags), and "Best By" dates between March 1, 2007 and June 10, 2007. The capital "G" will be in the 9th position on smaller 4 lb. to 8 lb. bags.

Diamond's quantitative analysis records substantiate that shipments were definitively clear of aflatoxin after December 10. As such, "Best By 11-June-07" date codes or later are not affected. Also, products with "Best By" dates prior to 28-Feb-07 are safe.

Products manufactured at our Gaston S.C. facility included in the recall:

* Diamond Premium Adult Dog Food
* Diamond Hi-Energy Dog Food
* Diamond Maintenance Dog Food
* Diamond Performance Dog Food
* Diamond Puppy Food
* Diamond Low Fat Dog Food
* Diamond Maintenance Cat Food
* Diamond Professional Cat Food
* Country Value Puppy
* Country Value Adult Dog Food
* Country Value High Energy Dog Food
* Country Value Adult Cat Food
* Professional Reduced Fat Chicken & Rice Dog Food
* Professional Chicken & Rice Adult Dog Food
* Professional Puppy Food
* Professional Large-Breed Puppy Food
* Professional Reduced Fat Cat Food
* Professional Adult Cat Food

Are any Gaston Facility Pet Foods Safe?
Although certain pet foods produced at the Gaston facility have been voluntarily recalled due to potential aflatoxin contamination, a wide range of the plant's products are perfectly safe and still can be purchased from retailers.

Gaston products not part of the recall include:

* All Premium Edge products
* The complete Chicken Soup product lines
* Diamond Lamb and Rice Adult
* Diamond Large Breed Adult 60+
* Diamond Large Breed Puppy
* Diamond Senior 8+
* Diamond Kitten
* Professional Lamb and Rice

Are products manufactured at other Diamond facilities affected by this situation?
No. Products manufactured at our Gaston facility are the only ones subject to the recall.

What states receive products from the Gaston facility?
The Gaston facility provides products to our customers in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan*, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio*, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee*, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

*These states receive product from other Diamond Pet Food facilities. Please check your date code carefully. Unless it has a capital "G" in the 11th or 12th position of the date code on the larger 15 lb. to 55 lb. bags, it is not included in the recall. The capital "G" will be in the 9th position on smaller 4 lb. to 8 lb. bags.

I noticed they have added this to the recall also.
Kirkland Signature Maintenance Cat Food

I still don't see how it got out. Like I said before we tested the trucks that came in, knew which bin the corn is stored in, so we knew which corn from what farm was where on what date, and it got tested again in the milling process, and again in the finished product. Maybe it was just a fluke thing and it didn't form until later?

My food does not have corn in it but now I'm questioning the integrity of the company and if I want to keep purchasing from them. Everyone makes mistakes but that is a dangerous one.

Yeah now that the kirkland signatures cat food has been added I am starting to be much nmore careful and read each bag of kirkland signatures dog food, because that is what I feed. So far mine is not made in Gaston, so I am safe but I have way to much to lose with bad food, not just family pets but my breeding stock too. So seriously considering the change over.
