If you had to go through a dog training certification class that costs money, buy a license that costs money, go through a dog care class, that also costs money, yes, I think people would think twice about getting a dog!
It doesn't exactly ENSURE anything, but who the hell wants to pay for all that....and they money should go to animal shelters and rescues. I know I'd pay for it every year or two to own a dog....but I know some people would say "to he*l with it."
What does breed ban do? NOTHING. It ruins it for all the good dogs and responsible owners/breeders out there. It takes good dogs from their homes. Good dogs that will most likely end up being put down when they should be putting down people-aggressive dogs. Punish the people, not the dogs. There are WAY more dangerous dogs out there than pit bulls. Why aren't they banning them!? And why aren't they arresting irresponsible owners!? Because they are WIMPS and this is the "easiest" way out for the gov and the completley ignorant people in society that know NOTHING about dogs, let alone pit bulls and pit looking dogs.[/QUOTE
I certainly agree that the ban does nothing. I am however against restricting dog ownership to people with surplus cash. I have known poor folks that were great dog owners and that money would go better in their pockets. Why should people who dont breed irresponsibly have to pay for shelters? Maybe you think that money is a great cause but what about those people who dont think it is a great cause? I have seen government licensed people drive completely insane the paper doesnt help. I have seen government certified firearms safety instructers who are just an accident waiting to happen. The responsibility is in the hands of the owner or at least IMO should be...not an agency. If people are irresponsible without the paper work they will be irresponsible with the paper work as well, no matter how much money they have.
