So we finally got an estimate for my hubby's teeth. The first part he absolutely needs an oral surgeon. This includes all the teeth, wisdom teeth, the jaw bone and the dentures. $7,500 to $10,000 :yikes: This dentist first told me he could do payment arrangements. Well the people he went to have changed the way they run things and so the dentist doesn't do business with them any more, he said he wouldn't send anyone to them. The dentist also said he can't do payment arrangements out of his personal office.

:yikes:

Ouch. At least, though, now you have an idea what you are looking at and you know that there is a shot at finding a way to getting this handled.

Have you talked to Catholic Charities? I don't know if this in particular is up their alley, but they have a vast network, and I'm betting would help find a way for someone who wasn't just looking for a handout, but for a way to do for themselves. :)

I am so sorry. I don't know what to say beyond that. I know every adult in my family needs dental work and cannot have it. ANd we will all be looking at your situation in the future. No one has insurance and we are struggling to make it to the end of the month. We have a dental school. I have been there, and have had both good and bad results. But even so i won't dare with my jaw having no joints to it anymore. I hear your frustration and i understand all to well the pain. The fact that dental gone untreated can affect the heart makes it all the more scarier. THere has to be an answer but i don't know what it is.:( for any of us ((((((HUGS)))))) I feel like we are backing up to the dark ages.

(hugs) to you too!! I know it is scary! It can also effect the brain. When there is an infection in the mouth it can spread to the most important parts of the body. Luckily this last time my mom got him meds to clear up the infection. Thank goodness for her and that doc that wrote it without seeing my hubby. Its scary too because a lot of these clinics and what not are kinda like a butcher shop. Can't do that when you need actual surgery. You get the quality you pay for. Can't mess with quality when its surgery :( Have more problems and pay more money in the long run in this case if you don't go to an actual surgeon. My husband told me this morning and I wanted to cry! No words for it.

You know my hubby is going to a meeting today with a couple of guys to meet an investor in Detroit. They have this product and they have been waiting over a year to meet this guy and finally its happening TODAY. If this goes through, my hubby will have an awesome job, insurance for the whole family, awesome pay and maybe even some relocation for my family... wouldn't complain since I want to get out of Michigan. Hopes up, fingers crossed. This could change our lives if it all goes through :yikes: (in a good way LOL) O.k. kinda like the mind set of the lottery, trying to not think about it or get excited. I'm kinda nervous LOL.

check into Care Credit. its a credit card aimed at medical procedures...
the interest is kinda high, but there actually a good company to work with (and have interest free offers.

i have no health insurance and got a $5000 credit line (would have been aproved for more but just kept low) with them when i got a very bad infection in my wisdom tooth.

that sucks, i have about $18,000 worth of dental work that needs to be done, and the sad part ALL of it is replacment work for stuff that i had done in the UK years ago...guess thats the big problem with the national health, you get what you pay for...and you dont pay for it so...
im about $3000 worth of work down but cant afford the monthly payment if i go anymore so now i have to wait untill thats paid off before getting more work or i get dental insurance (and even then im sure theyll only cover so much)

I'm sure that you've probably mentioned this before and I missed it, but does your family qualify for Medicare/Medicaid? I'm not sure if they cover dental work, but since this is a medical procedure (you mentioned jaw surgery), then maybe you could get it covered that way... even if it's in a more so roundabout way.

Could you get a second or third opinion? I could imagine that there are surgeons/medical practices out there that will do a payment plan through their office. My dentist even does payment plans over a short period of time.
