So at my cleaning a few months ago with the new dentists who took over my retired dentists practice they were unhappy with my current fillings. Due to my recent vacation which the details hadn't been settled at the time of the cleaning I didn't go back until last week for my scheduled dental work. Two appointments, one for three fillings on the right and another for four fillings on the left. Most of this was to replace existing fillings that apparently hadn't removed all the existing decay and just formed larger cavities below.
Much to their shock and disbelief none of my teeth hurt or bothered me in the least. Well I mean I do have some cold sensitivity but most people do so not big deal. So yeah, a few of those cavities under existing fillings were really big, like shocking to the dentist big. One on the left, on my first appointment last week, was very close to needing a root canal she said but should be fine for now. This week I was back for the left side. Well two of those cavities were huge, one of them she actually wants me to come back and get a crown done on. It's a filling now but she said really there was too much decay and it needs a crown long term.
It's not as bad as she would have thought with the size of some of these cavities because my body was actually fighting back and forming restorative dentin which saved me from needing more work. So yeah, new dentists have equaled significant dental work and costing me a fair amount of money. The fillings on the left side weren't as smooth and leveled out as the ones she did on the right. Probably in part because it was all taking longer than she expected and she realized one of them is going to be made into a crown soon. So my bite is a tiny bit off, it's only been two days so I'm waiting to see if I adjust or if I might look to push my appointment for the crown up sooner so I can get the bite back to being more even. It's a very small difference but small is all it takes to feel "off".
