Well Riot was an AMAZING boy for me in his sweepstakes class and finished 2nd to Rev.. AGAIN lmao Rev has an American Champ as a father though and hes a spitting image of him.. hes VERY hard to beat lmao

Anyways.. Riot was hot and cranky after sweeps class.. I think if we had his Best of Breed class before sweeps he would have taken Puppy.
BUT.. due to crankiness.. he didn't want to be touched so - GROWLED AT THE JUDGE in best of breed.. It was just a low grumble and I dont think the judge really heard it b/c he kept checking out his teeth etc and going over him and everything. When he did that I grabbed hold of his neck because I couldn't find his thin collar in the fur and twisted hard. He shut up after that and did very very well. But that behaviour was not permited! I was so upset with him.

Anyways, tomorrow is the last day of Best of Breed Shows for a couple of weeks so I have a few weeks to keep working on him.

Pics to come.. just need to upload them all now lol

If your dog is growling at judges he needs more training and socialization and may not have the best of temperaments (aka may not be breeding quality temperament).

Also, twisting his neck is no way to deal with an aggression issue. Him growling is not at all a cute or laughable behavior, but you do not need to resort to physical measures to deal with it.

How do you know what breeds of dogs I have or have not been around? You don't.

Just because the dog is a certain breed does not make aggression like this acceptable, nor does it make twisting it's neck to correct it acceptable.

Oh geez, here we go again. Pippin, did you by any chance read "Day 3" of the show? because the same thing was said about it not being funny. Why does everyone keep tripping about how someone else handles their dog. Until you are in their exact situation with that dog's clone you CANNOT say what is right nor wrong. Summer, you did what you had to do to keep your dog under control. Dont' sweat it. :)

Belgians are naturally protective. Riot's young and still learning. They also go through stages.

You do NOT correct your dog in the ring.

LOL no kidding eh GSD.

Its pick on Summer night I think.

I think that the people who DONT show their dogs on here, will never completely understand what its like to be on display infront of a crowd with the judge bending Right infront of you over your dog examining him. you have to stand there, "show" your dog to the best of its abilities as well as make sure they remain still and behave well during the physical inspection.

My dogs get grabbed by their necks all the time, its as close as a natural correction as your going to get.

Yep, I think i you're in the spotlight tonight, lol.

I dont show in conformation, but I understand what needs to take place and you gotta do what you gotta do. I hate when people critisize my Schutzund training. People always have something to say about it and it drives me crazy. I just say its my dog and whatever techniques work that is what I will use. People dont understand or respect other people decisions.
