My elderly neighbor told me she gave her Bishon a bath using Dawn dishwashing liquid (the new pink kind, whatever that is)... He really looked nice and white and seemed fine. I was just wondering if anyone knows if that is safe to wash a dog with?? If it's not I can tell her and I am sure she will listen and not do it anymore, but if you guys think it's ok, I can just mind my own business... :)... I just love her little dog and and I know she does and I know she would not want to be doing anything that would harm him... Thanks for any replies and help...

dawn seriously strips oil, (its used to clean up seabirds and critters after oil spills.)
it is however considered "Gentle" for me it would depend on frequency of use, id say it would be fine once a month or so but beyond that it would probbaly strip too many of the GOOD oils form the skin/coat.
it is good as a flea bath too.

Its not a very good shampoo for normal grooming use but it does kill fleas really well

I will not try those kind as shampoo, maybe it's pretty compatible with her dog but probably not to every dog.

I have heard of quite a few groomers recommending dawn... but its usually for dogs who get really oily (water dogs)

We had a newf/GSD cross that you HAD to use dishwashing detergent. Nothing else would cut the oil so you could even get his skin wet!!!! (he was so huge and hairy and oily he didn't get often baths)

I really swear by using the same shampoo as i would use on my own head. Sauve works very well for both of us. WHite rain..not so good.

PRell is suppose to strip oil quite a bit for a really dirty dog.

I have never heard of Dawn, however Palmolive cut with water, about 1/4 to 3/4 water, works well.
