My mum is obsessed with daschunds and has been hounding a standard puppy for years. She decided to get one advertised as a litter of 2 in the Friday Ad about 18 or more months ago. We decided to get two and we ended up getting a dog and a bitch. The woman who sold them to us said that the mother was definatley a daschund and she didnt know who the father was. As puppies they seemed to be pretty much normal puppy size.

This is Poppy, the girl, compared to a border collie when she was a puppy.

We noticed they werent very daschundy like pretty quick when their legs just kept on growing! Our vet said he could only see Whippet in them however I've had random comments from people asking if they're daschunds, so there must be some characteristics.

Heres Poppy standing at around 8 months old.

This is Poppys face close up, I had been told a few times that she had a daschunds face.

And this is her brother sunbathing, you can see how long the legs are!

Just thought Id share with you as I doubt this mix is very popular!

I see both the breeds !

Beat me to it. I definitely could make a case for a mix of both. As far as supporting a BYB goes, it seems to me from the original info given that it might of just been a accident and the lady was trying to find homes for the resulting pups. Now that doesn't take away the responsibility of the owner not spaying her bitch, but might not necessarily be your typical BYB.

I see both. And I agree, I think the litter was an oops litter. Not that those are perfectly ok, but not as bad as a planned mixed litter going for hundreds of dollars.
And your dog is lovely. :)

Thank you for all the lovely compliments!! Sadly Poppy isnt with us anymore but Compo is a lovely dog who can run like the wind!!

I'll never know if the litter were truly an accident or a BYB type thing but it doesnt matter very much to me anymore as I ended up with 2 fantastic dogs, one of which was my best friend.

Our next puppy we're geting from a 100% legitimate breeder :)

I think the dogs in question are cute. I have a mix that is guessed to be pit-dachshund (or pit-basset). And no one ever believes me when I say that until they actually MEET my dog... because pictures make him look bigger than he really is... :)
