What a handsome fellow. My mom wanted a Ridgeback for a while, but then when Benji came into our lives, she became a terrier person instead.

What a handsome fellow. My mom wanted a Ridgeback for a while, but then when Benji came into our lives, she became a terrier person instead.

personally, i wanted a huge dog... like Irish wolfhound... then i went down as my ideas kept getting shot down.. you know, not enough land for a huge beast of a wolfhound. set my hopes on adopting from DobieHaven of Texas.

It just so happened that a friend had some really bad luck and had to stay with us for.. 6 or so months, with little to no money and his son wouldn't let him stay with him because family problems strained. Since i supposedly took such great care of him, he managed to squeeze Brutus and a female out of his son when the mother had her pups and i got to choose.

Brute was too handsome to pass up. I never thought I'd own one. Until i looked into his puppy brown eyes and saw my fiance go "what do you want for him?" i was ready to sell my house for this little bub. We were told he was free and papers were included and whatnot. I was more excited than when i got engaged...

Since i got him and have been working with him and whatnot. I just fell in love with the breed. Just amazing creatures. He continues to amaze me everyday. He's nothing like i thought he'd be though. I continuously heard they are hard headed and horribly hard to train and just really tough to deal with. Generally a dog people "think" they want and end up inevitably giving away because it's not a golden retriever.
Nothing like that.. at all... Ive been told it's because how much time i spend with him and how strong our bond is... but i think he's just a perfect gentleman.

Awww . . . . great pics. Nice thing about your dancing partner is with him, you don't have to worry about things that go bump in the night ;)

oh i know! i didn't realize how scared i really was of the dark till i got him and he was always around. But also.. He corrects and leads my two left feet really well ;) Don't let the picture fool you. He's Leading.

From what I have heard and read, Tenebrion, Ridgebacks respond to "training" in much the same way as Filas - it's not training and reinforcing specific behaviors so much as it is building that bond with them. When that is there, they not only WANT to work WITH you and please you, they become so attuned to you that they often anticipate what you need. There's nothing quite like it, is there? :)

Heheh . . . Amazing, isn't it? Having Kharma with me pretty much takes away any trepidation I have about being anywhere, anywhen. I've seen firsthand what she's capable of. :D
