Quick one-week update (with pictures, so stop here if you're a little squeamish): the tail seems to be healing well. There was an incident a couple days ago where she got the wrap off while I was at work and picked at it a little, but she didn't pull any of the stitches out. The stump was pretty red and irritated after that, but it's looking much better now.

If everything goes well, she should be able to get the stitches out a week from today. She's on crate rest and leash walks until then, which she isn't overly thrilled about.

And a few pictures of it from today - it's definitely looking better, but the fur will take a little while to grow back. Her tail does seem sore, but she's been using it normally, and it shouldn't cause any issues when it's all healed up.

Awwwwww poor little girl.
Glad it is healing well and she is starting to perk up. It must feel so strange for her!
It's a very cute little mini tail though.

Aw, it is kind of cute! I am actually thinking it won't be very noticeable once the hair grows back. Glad to hear it is healing so well.

I somehow missed this til now -- I'm glad the surgeries went smoothly and she is well on the road to recovery :)

Mira's dad had to have part of his tail docked due to an injury that they just couldn't get healed. Just when it was almost back to good, he'd smack it against something and open it again. He has a "sport dock" now and is much happier for it. The tail injury meant he couldn't do any field work and he would have given his whole tail to get back out again...

Hoping the rest of her recovery continues smoothly and she is back in full action soon :)

I think so too - she originally had a good five or six inches of feathering, so once it grows back it shouldn't look too short. It does look kind of cute, I'm hoping it doesn't give her any balance issues now that she has a shorter "rudder" - she might have to relearn how to do those tight turns.

She somehow managed to open it up again last night :( Not right at the stitches, but underneath where the skin is still tender. It's not bleeding anymore, but is looking a little red and swollen, so fingers crossed that it's not getting infected. I'll take her in to the vet tomorrow if I don't see any improvement by then.

I think it looks rather attractive . She must have some trouble adjusting to such a short tail. Hope she's soon completely recovered!
