Could this be Mange? Or just some type of bites?

Kaine has something all over him. I'm not sure what it is. They don't seem to be itchy at all.

Does it look like mange? I don't know much about that, so any input would be great.

He did a couple months ago, get into a patch of sea ticks that left his hair raised like that. He had red bumps like that afterwards, but that was quite a long time ago and we had gotten all of the ticks off.

We take him for walks at the parks in town and he's got a big yard... could they be some type of bite? Chiggers? Do dogs get them?

In a couple pictures, you can see where he's got like these white spots that are hairless now...those are spots that used to be red like the others.

Here's some pictures...

One of my dogs had something like this on his snout. But they looked puffier than what is on Kaine. But he lost his hair where they were at, and turned white looking.

The vet said an allergic reaction to spider bites??? Well, I believe it was an allergic reaction to something, but I was not convienced about the spiders. But with antibiotic and anti inflamatory drugs it got better, good as new...but it took along time.

Best of Luck,
Julie.

Allergies will most always itch I think and Kaines dont itch at all.

I'm thinking either a bacterial or virus infection or maybe even mange.

I really dont know. He will be seeing the vet next week.
At first we thought it was from bug bites but we have been watching him closely and now feel that its not.

maybe even a fungus???

The rash looks a lot like the one Brutus had on his stomach. It then spread under his front legs. We are not sure what caused it, maybe ant bites or just swimming in the pond. Vet wasn't sure what started it either. However under his front legs in the pit area he had managed to do a little scratching and it turned into basically a staph infection. She gave him a shot, pills and medicated lotion. It cleared up overnight, as far as the rash. He has to stay on the antbiotic for 10 days. I had put neosporin on the tummy at first it did seem to help that part. I don't know how often you take your dog swimming but from what I understand they can get staph infections from swimming in ponds, lakes etc. Brutus sneaks out to the pond every chance he can. We have been keeping him out of it because of this. However he deviously went out there today while I was mowing. Everytime I looked to the house He was sitting there. But when I finished, I found his wet belly. sneaky little devil

Mange is very sore and itchy... My poor Bubba picked it up when visiting in Ontario...I took him to a specialist who did testing. It was expensive to treat and I treated my granddogs he had been in contact with. Luckily he was cured quicly and the others didn't get it. I found out later that Toronto had had an epidemic that year .

I just got back from the vets and he said definately allergies. He didn't know without testing if it is food related or enviromental.

Kaine is on an anti-inflammatory and he said he should be bump free in 48 hours.

I have also been giving Kaine some vitamin C, flaxseed oil, echinacea, yogurt and some cottage cheese for three days now and it seems to have helped. I'm looking into getting solid golds' sea meal or missing link. These things are supposed help out the immune system.....has anyone used these before?

We are watching very closely now and elimminating things that could be causing the allergies.
I also had him checked for worms and he was worm free :D

and Geez, Kaine gained 5lbs since last seeing the vet. 80 lbs now. Hes not fat but then again hes far from skinny. Looks like we'll have to up his exercise.

what kind of food is she on... she may have an allergy to tap water... tap water unfortunately can cause skin allergins... have you added oil to her diet... she may not be getting enough Omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids... if you wanna try the water thing buy a brita... or purified water... my blue dobe has skin issues at the moment... alot of it is Prince biting her all the time but also some of it the fact she is allergic to chlorine. and other chemicals in water... her food is slowing being changed to holistic diet... and it is helping but dang... it seems like it never gets better... hope i could help hugs

I had an Aussie that was like your Sandy...allergies all year round. After Kaine finishes his anti-inflammatory I'm going to try and work on boosting his immune system so he can fight these allergies on his own if they turn out to be enviromental. We have already began to eliminate some things from his diet. I have also switched him to Canidae and what a difference in his coat already!!

I belong to another forum, and many people are experiencing the same type of skin condition with their pit bulls as well. Some of the people there treat their pets with more natural ways rather than with drugs with excellent results. We have shared pics and they very much look the same. So maybe its just a seasonal thing going on. We will just have to wait and see.

Enviromental allergies for sure

Kaine is definately having his allergies from our walks in the park. We were kind of suspecting this and have been only going for our walks there every other day. Well last night he played with another dog at their yard and boy was he ever red and he also developed spots and welts before we got home. There was alot of rolling around in the grass.

We gave him a bath and that seemed to help a little. This morning the bumps are still there but most of the redness is gone. I gave him a Benedryl this morning. I would have given him one last night but he had a prednisone and the vet said not to give him one on the days hes had the prednisone. (hes being weaned off).

Does anyone have any other suggestions that might help Kaine out? Supplements?, shampoos, or anything else?

I would like to do this naturally but am unsure what to use. Currently he gets a vitamin C,yogurt, flax oil and Echinacea to help boost his immune system. We have been doing this for about a week. Will these things help him with his allergies or should we be using something else or something more?

Hes being fed Canidae dog food.

I also read on another thread about bee pollen. What exactly is bee pollen? We do have a bee keeper about 3 miles away. I have heard that it needs to come from a local keeper. He would qualify right?

any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Champagne, do you mind if I ask what the other forum is that you belong to. My stepson has a red nose pit and has problems like yours too. I would love to pass on the website to him. Thanks

Its www.pitbullforum.com. Its a really good site. Mostly positive training with alot of great advice for the breed.

My daughter posts there and I do the lurking LOL.

quite a few of the pits right now are having skin problems, so everyone is thinking mostly enviromental but there are others that suffer from food allergies.

There are also alot of working/show dogs at this site. Good pitbull site, hope it helps your step son out.

Hi

My partners pitbull suffered from alot of weird rashes, that came and went. We got some all natural products from the UK called Dermacton and Ultrasalve. Both worked a treat! Pitty is fine, now we just need to find something natural for her underbite. (dog not my partner) ;)
