Could me cleaning be scary for my dog?

Yesterday, for the longest time in forever, I cleaned my kitchen. Penny, my AmStaff, knew to keep clear, but a few times I noticed her standing in the doorway, looking at me strangely, and trembling. I went over and comforted her and she seemed to be fine and went about her business. But she was unusually quiet last night.

Could she have been afraid of all the spraying I was doing in the kitchen? The smell was a bit strong, I admit. I was also mopping the floors and the pine sol was strong, too, but I had windows opened.

Also, she puked a little bit of yellow on the carpet as soon as she got up this morning (she tends to sleep through the night and wakes up when I do).

Penny tends to be a bit nervous by nature. When I first got her about a year ago, she cowered and trembled whenever I reached a hand above my head for something, and cried a lot whenever I left the apartment. She's better now, but I wonder if the sound of all that spraying scared her enough to send her trembling?

I hope it was just from my cleaning last night--could it be something else?

I would maybe put her in another room while you're cleaning since it does have a strong smell. She may have breathed in too much of the fumes and also may have licked up some of the cleaner off the floor. Be sure to rinse the floor thoroughly after cleaning.

Remember that dogs have very sensitve senses of smell. What kind of cleaner were you using? Also, your dog probably isn't used to the smell. What I would do, and I agree with Barb, just put Penny in another room and then let her sniff the kitchen. Put a barrier up overnight so that she can't get in and lick the yucky cleaner off the floor.
